Non competitive spelling and reading. I hate it!

My ds is really good at reading and spelling. it's his chance to shine. I hate the fact that his school don't hold public compulsory reading and spelling competitions in which the parents get to cheer on their children and see who comes last. I mean, competitiveness is so important, don't you think?

ViciousSquirrelSpotter · 23/06/2007 19:34

Oh Lord

What a truly nutty man

And let's hope he keeps failing, or there's going to be some poor "girl under thirty" marrying him

I don't see anything funny about the OP, Peachy.

Does Aloha even have a child of school age, yet? Any actual experience of competitiveness in schools?

A piss take on all the posters on this thread, more like.

This is about Aloha's abhorrence of sports day, or anything else that allows individual children to shine. In her world view, children who shine take the piss out of children who don't.

If you want to take the piss out of genuine posters, Aloha, do so less sneakily in future.

I am still waiting for Fio to explain her earlier comment to me.

I agree with you SN.

This was, to my mind, a post which highlights the fact that while many schools promote public excellence of sport, They shy away from the same in reading etc , to avoid the hurt and humiliation that this causes children who struggle with the academic subjects.

I don't thisnk, for one second, that aloha wants there to be competative reading. She was just pointing out a double standard.
