Depends what kind of school it is. Private schools will give you wine. I wouldn't do the snogging thing though. They probably want to sell you lots of uniform.

CountessDracula · 21/06/2007 17:03

no is state school

I may bottle out and send her private

oh god what do I wear?

CountessDracula · 21/06/2007 17:04

We didn't even get any refreshments at DS2's last week. Had already ordered uniform so got that, found out what class he'll be in and visited classroom (I already knew it as it is DS1's this year!)

Very dull evening on the whole - make sure you go to the pub afterwards

Enid · 21/06/2007 17:09

omg

pull yourself together

I doubt you'll get wine

its just to say hello and buy the uniform at dds school

Earlybird · 21/06/2007 17:11

If you get wine, it will be awful wine.

babygrand · 21/06/2007 17:11

I wouldn't waste your time dressing up (unless you plan on maximising having a babysitter and go out afterwards).

nailpolish · 21/06/2007 17:14

its just to get info about school dinner money and to buy blazers

i sat in my sahm uniform while lots of posh mummies sat in suits looking at watches getting nervous at mine (whcih was lunchtime)

We sat in the junior hall and listened to head and reception teachers tell us what to expect and what our children will be doing in the first year. We also got a prospectsus and info about settling in procedures, uniform and various other stuff.

Now wine, no snogging.

CountessDracula · 21/06/2007 17:19

tsk

I will try not to vom in any hedges either

OP posts:
CountessDracula · 21/06/2007 17:19

It is absolutely imperative to get pissed and snog the head. You may have to bring your own supplies to achieve the former but you will get super-plus-bonus marks for the latter if the head happens to be female.

Actually, I whine about the DDs' school, but every time I go there I get buoyed up by the enthusiasm, excitement and commitment of the teachers and the loveliness of the children.

CountessDracula · 21/06/2007 17:21

no he is a bloke
the deputy is quite fit I could snog her but I doubt she would thank me as I have a horrid cold

pointydog · 21/06/2007 17:21

Probably just talk about day to day practicalities and answer questions. Might tell you about the curriculum but most here opt to do that at the start of the new term.

Watch out for the parents who revert to being 6 year old children themselves in these situations and start giggling and saying 'ooo, I'm getting into trouble from the teacher'. Cracks me up.

At dd1's first school, parents all had to sit on P1 sized chairs which made the whole adults-acting-like-kids even more ridiculous.

heifer · 21/06/2007 17:21

It's so all the other mums can look at the newbie and bitch about you...

OrmIrian · 21/06/2007 17:21

A junior hall is a room slightly larger than a large classroom with a constant cold draught from the door that doesn't close properly, benches meant for LOs that give you splinters, and 'art work' all over the walls. Oh...and not to forget the 'technology' that always fails to work and show you the slides that someone lovingly prepared.

Does that help? I'm sure that every school has one.

pointydog · 21/06/2007 17:22

having read the thread, you might only revert as far back as a teenager, cd, so not so bad

kookaburra · 21/06/2007 17:23

They will all be people just like you, vampires who live in big castles and have aged creepy servants - not intimidating at all

CountessDracula · 21/06/2007 17:24

I will tell the staff you think they are creepy
I'm sure they will be delighetd

Blandmum · 21/06/2007 17:24
