Trainers for PE (reception)

Any suggestions?
Are supermarket ones any good? Decathlon? They’ve got some for £9 but they say you shouldn’t use them for football or tennis!

Just get any that your child can put on and off independently, that stay on their feet when they run and that follow any colour rules the school may have. Sometimes PE shoes have to be black.

Finfintytint · 13/08/2018 08:25

A reception aged child will not be putting too much wear and tear on trainers. I'd go for a budget option as they will probably be lost at some point Smile

LetItGoToRuin · 13/08/2018 08:29

Agree with Savoy and Finfin. My DD never wore her trainers for PE in Reception, so I'm glad they were very cheap!

MissRainbowBrite · 13/08/2018 08:30

We used Sainsburys trainers for Reception and Y1 and they've been fine. Usually manage to get them in the 25% off too so about £6-7. When they first start to do PE they won't be wearing them for long so go for something that fits well, Velcro fasteners and don't spend a fortune as they'll be outgrown before they're outworn.

Pascha · 13/08/2018 08:30

I'd stick with £3 plimsolls for now unless you're told otherwise. Pe in reception is a very mild affair.

InTheRoseGarden · 13/08/2018 08:34

I wondered about plimsolls pascha but the uniform list says "trainers". I might call them and check.

Blankscreen · 13/08/2018 08:35

Out list says plimsolls but I'm sending in trainers. Plimsolls have very little support or cushioning for the feet and really can't be very comfortable.

wonderstar1216 · 13/08/2018 08:37

For most schools near me and our school plimsolls are a no no as they provide little support.

Bitlost · 13/08/2018 08:40

Get cheap supermarket trainers for reception.

We now get StartRite trainers for DD in Y5 as supermarket trainers start stinking very quickly and I find there's nothing you can do about it.

But for reception, cheap trainers should do.

shoelaces · 13/08/2018 08:41

They do a lot of bare feet PE in reception as well, so just normal plimsoles will be fine.

LIZS · 13/08/2018 08:43

Just standard non-marking sole trainers with Velcro or elastic fastening. Most supermarkets and department stores will have them.

funmummy48 · 13/08/2018 08:49

Budget trainers are fine but will be necessary as plimsolls will leave them with wet feet after outdoorOR when it's wet. Our Reception children are outside for a lot of theirPE sessions. They're also handy to change into when they've wee'd in their shoes!😉

MollyHuaCha · 13/08/2018 08:54

My school asked for both black and white trainers. The black ones were never worn. Not even once.

wwwwwwwwwwwwww · 13/08/2018 08:58

Startrite has a sale on and you'll get a width fitted pair for £15

wwwwwwwwwwwwww · 13/08/2018 08:59

They are velcro

Dadsbigsausages · 13/08/2018 09:06

Plimsolls for indoor pe, cheap black trainers from Asda etc for outside pe. They will be lost, they will hardly be worn, they will be grown out of quickly.

Starlight345 · 13/08/2018 09:09

Our school does pe bare foot , outside trainers so cheap and cheerful is fine for 1/2 hourrun around once a week.

MummySparkle · 13/08/2018 09:10

I got Sainsbury's ones for DS. Ugly as anything but Velcro and seem supportive. He loves them and now opts to wear them in the school holidays Hmm

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 13/08/2018 10:26

I just buy cheapo ones from Asda

Mumof4under10 · 13/08/2018 10:31

I just buy cheap Velcro trainers. Avoid laces as they are expected to start being about to get dressed and undressed independently. Our school has changed from plimsolls to trainers as previous posted plimsolls give little support.

Stuckforthefourthtime · 13/08/2018 11:14

Will your child be wearing them outside of just PE? I've preferred to spend a bit more on decent shoes that they can then wear for running around in the weekend, it's so important to have properly fitted and supportive shoes at this age. Clarks/Jones has a good selection, if you measure up carefully then go onto shoesforkids.com often there are very good brands from last season at half price.

GlacindaTheTroll · 13/08/2018 11:18

Any trainer in a not-too-garish colour. At reception age, go for Velcro fastening and don't worry about whether they are suitable for any particular sport - they really won't reach an age where it matters (and when you need lace ups) for several years.

Bapooo · 13/08/2018 12:20

I just got some basic black Velcro plimsolls. We live in the north east (although not from here originally) and they were down as ‘sandshoes’ on the uniform list, I had to check what they were! Grin

IceCreamFace · 13/08/2018 13:19

I found first sport good and cheap.

YeTalkShiteHen · 13/08/2018 13:22

Might be worth checking if they need non marking soles (DS1s primary was a new build so they insisted to keep the floors good)

I got DS2 a wee pair of Nike huaraches in the sale (yes I know they’re hideous but they’re the only shoes he can tolerate without a sensory meltdown)

DD has Lelli Kelly plimsolls and DS1 has Stan Smiths
