Y6 SATS - Is it possible to achieve 3 scores of 120 ?

Apparently someone at dc's school did but the most likely candidate says it wasn't them.

I'm thinking there's been some tall stories told via kids on xbox tonight !

It’s possible. Unlikely but certainly possible.

SkeletonSkins · 13/07/2018 19:49

Unlikely isn’t what I mean. Unusual is better.

Frogletmamma · 13/07/2018 20:05

DD got 2/3, couple of marks off in Maths. So I guess it is possible.

Labradoodliedoodoo · 13/07/2018 20:06

Do you think they meant CATS scores rather then SATS scores.

French2019 · 13/07/2018 20:09

Yes, it's possible.

I'd be encouraging the kids not to gossip about their scores tbh.

Haskell · 13/07/2018 20:57

Perfectly possible. I work in a comprehensive school and we had a couple last year. I haven't looked at this year's too closely yet, but I imagine in selective secondaries there are more than a few.

ShowOfHands · 13/07/2018 21:03

Yes. DD did. She hasn't told anybody though.

Sugarhunnyicedtea · 13/07/2018 21:04

Yes it's definitely possible

thebookeatinggirl · 13/07/2018 21:09

Yes. Definitely know of at least two this year.

Neolara · 13/07/2018 21:15

I'd think so. Ds came very close to this.

Buildalegohouse · 13/07/2018 21:16

I had 2 in my class last year, one this year. None of them are gifted, just bright and have worked hard and applied themselves well (and stay calm in test situations!).

Had a year 4 pupil just take them all this week and he has achieved the same. He certainly is gifted though 😂

AornisHades · 13/07/2018 21:19

Dd's come close but I wouldn't be in the least bit surprised if one of her classmates racks up a perfect score.

Deliqueen · 13/07/2018 22:25

My DD has 2, just missed it on reading but we've only discussed/ celebrated with family. It's not been discussed between the children. It helps that they were handed out on the way out today.

sw15007 · 13/07/2018 22:56

DD got 2 120s and one slightly less. She isn't on any top tables at school and I imagine a fair few in her class will have got all 120s. Her school didn't really make much of a deal of SATs- was all very low key and we've been given very little context about their scores so don't really have a clue what 120 was.

oldbirdy · 13/07/2018 23:18

DS was 1 mark off 120 for maths and reading, and 3 marks off for spag, so very nearly did.

BlardySM · 13/07/2018 23:37

This is exactly why our school doesn’t give out the scores. Just working at, not working at or exceeding

oldbirdy · 13/07/2018 23:43

Huh? That's illegal. They have to give out the scores.
The teacher assessment apart from in writing can only be 'working at', (or below) not exceeding.

BlardySM · 14/07/2018 00:09

Was just discussing this on another thread. They don’t give out scores at all. Same with DD last year

BlardySM · 14/07/2018 00:10

Or year before even

BlardySM · 14/07/2018 00:11

No scores! This is what we are given

penguinsnpandas · 14/07/2018 01:30

DD got 2 out of 3, last one slightly below, and goes to a London grammar, she said many of the girls there got 120 in all 3 so yes its possible.

penguinsnpandas · 14/07/2018 01:35

She actually told me all the girls got 3x120 but is prone to exaggeration - also telling me she was the worst in everything but just got her scores in and she's above the grammar average (only by 2 percentage points per subject but the average grade is between A and A*) and way above in maths and science.

KingscoteStaff · 14/07/2018 07:31

Out of our 60, 2 got 3 x 120. Neither of them a surprise - both have got into super selectives and have been extremely studious and academic for their entire primary careers.
Quite a few more got 2 x 120 and then a third in the high teens.

The reading paper was easier than last year’s, so quite a few of mine missed the 120 score, even though they only dropped a very few marks out of 50.

PitterPatterOfBigFeet · 15/07/2018 09:36

A perfect score is totally possible. It definitely doesn't imply the person has exceptional ability just that they're bright and either did a lot of preparation (most don't for Sat's as there's no benefit to the child) or are just very careful when answering exam questions..

megletthesecond · 15/07/2018 18:46

It's certainly possible. DS isn't the brightest in his class but he did well.
I wouldn't put it past a couple of his friends to have 3 x 120 scores.
