Anyone else bricking not getting a place at the right school?

I just completed the application form and I'm already bricking him not getting in to the first choice. I'm so worried he won't get any of his choices and end up at the sink school or end up at the choice that's nearly 2 hours away. I wish I lived in a better school area. Tell me I'm not the only one?

Huh? The more you say, the less sense you make. Please update us in January!

TeenTimesTwo · 15/12/2017 18:08

OP. I did an advanced search to see if your other posts could make things clearer. It seems you only first started visiting schools on 4th Dec and your child has SN communication difficulties? And yet already you are putting in your application form, including for a school 2 hours away by the method you will travel to school?

If this is all accurate (and I know people sometimes muddle details to stay unrecognisable) then I strongly urge you to put a bit more info in this thread so that people with experience can advise you.

If your dc have sen, it's better to go and see each school and if possible, have a chat about sen provision.
You don't need to submit until the closing date.
And agree with Teen, there are some posters who are really experienced with admission rules, so better to consult/ask them rather than go blind and hope for the best.

MarthasHarbour · 15/12/2017 22:45

You really are not making any sense. A school 2 hours walk away can't be a catchment school and can not be a consideration by any stretch.

And your response to my last post is snobby at best. Offensive at worst. You categorise it as a sink school as it has foreign students. Hmm

MsJaneAusten · 15/12/2017 22:53

I don’t understand how you can live somewhere that doesn’t need a car (City Centre?) AND only have four schools within a two hour commute. That makes no sense...

RedSkyAtNight · 16/12/2017 11:32

Am I the only one finding it deeply ironic that OP's DC has speech and language SEN, and yet she is so scathing of DC that don't speak English?

Ok if idiots are just going to poison this thread with lies I'm out. Ridiculous.

Please come back on 15 April so you can complain you have been allocated the 'sink school' as quite frankly choosing schools 90and 120 mins walk away is beyond stupid.

TeenTimesTwo · 16/12/2017 13:31

If you are referring to me as lying I refer you (and other readers) to the following threads, both started by the OP:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/special_needs/3092892-Please-help-Preschool-carer-doesnt-seem-to-want-to-accept-my-sons-SN

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/special_educational_needs/3102815-Going-to-visit-potential-infants-school-Monday-What-are-the-important-questions

Just for good measure I am also going to throw in
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/parenting/3082067-How-many-books-does-your-8-year-old-actualy-read
which either implies pre-school child is very advanced reading, or implies an older child, already in school.

RedSkyAtNight · 16/12/2017 13:43

Miaow I apologise - it was not my intention to upset anyone and of course children with SEN face different difficulties to those children who are EAL. I just felt a parent whose own child needs additional support, and is potentially getting negative comments from others, would be more accepting of other children and their differences. If another parent spoke about OP's child in a similar vein to the comments she's made about other DC on this thread, I suspect she would find it (quite rightly) totally unacceptable.

user789653241 · 16/12/2017 13:48

What a horrible comment, OP.
Most of posters are just trying to be helpful. And comment about EAL children was offensive. If you read past threads, there are loads that suggests EAL children actually do better in couple of years, so I don't think it's really causing school to be a sink school as you describe.
You do whatever you like, and good luck with your school application.

@TeenTimesTwo if you read the others replies youll see what I mean. Don't get your knickers in a twist.

OP. Please let us help. A school that takes you 2 hours to get to is not a good option to put on the form.

Lifechallenges · 16/12/2017 22:56

This was the oddest thread. OP have you disappeared ? People were trying to help you?

LilyDisney · 18/12/2017 10:31

Wow your SEN child reads at a almost 9 year old level.

Sod all the schools - just get him to university.

user789653241 · 18/12/2017 12:01

Lily, not very nice, haven't you heard about 2e?

viques · 19/12/2017 14:31

butterflies, are you aware that the primary school that recently came out top of ALL primary schools in the whole country is an inner city school, in a deprived borough where most of the children speak English as their second or even third language? If you want to slate schools for poor achievement then slate them for poor teaching, not their intake.

Lifechallenges · 19/12/2017 23:32

Totally agree. I have friends in a school exactly as you describe. Massively challenging intake. Massively impresssive results.
