Absence letter

Can anyone tell me, please? Can they send a letter of absence for a condition which the school are aware of and is medical grounds?

long story short - my 7-year-old has severe incontinence issues. She is under local hospital, incontinence specialist and GP (every two weeks for monitoring of urine infections.) She has a urine infection every month and tomorrow is being seen by another specialist at Alder Hey.

The school is fully aware of the situation. My daughter as you can imagine has had a lot of time away from school. But we ask for work to be sent home for her (her education does matter to us but not at the detriment of her health)

We have just received this standard but a strongly worded letter. Tackling it head on we have spoken to the head - who I kid you not said 'Well if she is being seen by Alder Hey it must be quite serious but can you tell Alder Hey she has to get back to school!!!!!

What can I do? Can I get in touch with the LEA myself and explain - I understand completely about why the need etc but surely there has to be some kind of leeway with this?

Any help and guidance appreciated thanks

@FrayedHem I so wish I had photocopied the old book. They are now putting everything down and noting time etc. Funny how she is now drinking a full bottle and going to toilet more. 5 times in the panto oops.

Still waiting for a reply from Governors. How long do they have to reply? Do they have to reply?

Got her appointment through for a Renal DMSA for 4th Jan. That was scary quick. Says though that if you have had water infection within 6 weeks they have to reschedule. The problem is she gets them once a month.

Trying to ring but can't get though, receptionist said must be scanning.

Meant to say, has anyone had one?

Just thought I would give an update as everyone was so helpful.

Raised official complaint with Governors. They basically skirted around it all. Failed to mention what the head had said etc. They also passed the blame to us saying it the request for a school nurse was never put in writing.

On a positive note - daughter starts new school tomorrow who have smaller classes, and seem more able to help her.

So thanks, everyone.

Hi @irvineoneohone you’re very welcome. I just know she will happy at this new school. While she looked around she went to the loo 4 times in 10 mins. They are much better equipped to help her.

Thanks again Flowers
