Have you bought shoes yet?

DD is starting YR in a month.

I'm a mega organiser so got everything except the shoes and it's eating away at me to get them.

Is it too soon still?

Depends how quick their feet grow . I bought my daughters beginning of Aug before starting reception and her feet didn't go up in size for ages after .

Didiplanthis · 11/08/2017 14:26

I got mine supercheap in the sales months ago and am crossing everything they still fit ! Mine have silly shaped feet and only 1 or 2 styles fit in expensive makes but they reliably grow only 1 size/year so if I see them on sale in next size I grab them or it £50 per child x3. I would go soon or they may not have much left in your DC size also if they have very wide or narrow feet they may have nothing and need to order in.

RocknRolla · 11/08/2017 15:29

I bought my daughters shoes today and she starts school on Wednesday. Didn't want to get them before in case her feet grew over the summer.

leccybill · 11/08/2017 15:30

Nope, not yet. Prob next week.

Paddingtonthebear · 11/08/2017 15:31

Yes bought them two weeks ago, she has just gone up a size and only seems to grow in half sizes so seemed a good time to get them.

ShoeJunkie · 11/08/2017 15:35

Not yet, might go next week in the hope that the shop won't be completely heaving.

penstemon · 11/08/2017 15:45

If you are planning on getting shoes in Clarks, then you could buy them now, not wear them and, if your DD's feet grow in the next 28 days, take them back and get another pair. Otherwise, you may want to book an appt which saves waiting.
DD is going into Yr3 and has always had two pairs of school shoes each year as her feet grow quite quickly; DS got from September until May half term in one pair, we got new ones then which annoyed me as there was the risk he'd only get a few weeks wear out of them but he had to wear them earlier today and there is plenty of room in them.

NancyJoan · 11/08/2017 15:46

Yup. Did them this week.

Bought both my children's this week. My dd has very wide feet so wanted to get in early for more choice and my son is fussy! They're 10 and 12 so feet unlikely to suddenly grow that quickly. Just need new trousers/ skirts/PE kit etc now...

GherkinSnatch · 11/08/2017 16:01

DS starts P1 next week and we bought his two weeks ago to avoid the rush of the last two weekends.

user53592952153 · 11/08/2017 16:02

Yes, it's too soon. I was going to buy school shoes yesterday but put it off, fortunately as today I was told that their existing (1 month old) trainers are getting a bit small.

Redcrayons · 11/08/2017 16:07

When mine were littler I used to wait till the week before after having a last minute panic when the new shoes I bought at the end of the previous term didn't fit six weeks later.

If you go on Sunday morning ad be there when the shop opens there's never a queue.

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 11/08/2017 16:44

Ds will be in yr this year and will be wearing ones from reception if they fit as he only had two weeks of wear from them

We have an appointment booked with Clarks 2 weeks prior to term starting. I won't get them any sooner than that because knowing my luck, he'd have a massive growth spurt on his first day.

Allthecarsarelonely · 13/08/2017 21:44

Sorry to pester, but Miaow how tiny is tiny?

Are they under a size 7?

I have a smallish child starting school who will need black shoes suitable for school. Do the small sizes sell out because everyone is trying to buy for 4 year olds starting reception?

smellyboot · 13/08/2017 22:56

I've never had an issue with my DC feet growingbthat fast - only ever a size a year or so. I buy in sales and get a size up etc. As such I got my DCs for a fraction of the cost of clarks new in Aug !! I also think that M&S shoes are hardier than clarks and one of the best pairs we had ever were a pair of really cheap Tesco ones both for DD and DS... lasted forever and didn't even scuff.

Ninjakittysmells · 13/08/2017 23:00

I got ours last week. My friend owns a shoe shop and she said it would be fine as they can judge if there is plenty of room or if you are on the cusp so it's better to wait. I've done everything now for school - I've never been this organised in my life!

RatOnnaStick · 13/08/2017 23:11

DS1(6) has had three pairs in two years, last at Easter which still fit perfectly so no need for him. DH will take DS2 for his first school shoes next saturday morning. There's a nice little shoe shop in Canterbury which doesn't get crammed like Clarks and they will go early anyway. It's nice not to have to do them both at the same time.

Neither of my children seem to have fast growing feet. They've never had an issue with growing up a size in six weeks as so many MNer's children seem to.

ThursdayLastWeek · 13/08/2017 23:17

I've booked an appt at clarks the Thursday before DS starts reception.
I did think I might get them sooner, but I managed to squeeze in a measure last week and her was on the cusp of sizes so I prefer to leave it to get something that will fit him for as long as possible.

Poor thing, I only ever realise his feet have grown when he starts getting blisters and only wants to wear his crocs all the time!

littlebillie · 13/08/2017 23:20

I've done all my labels for 2 dcs today feeling smug Grin

TheSnorkMaidenReturns · 13/08/2017 23:20

@Allthecarsarelonely

My youngest is about to start secondary so I can't recall what size he was starting reception but I know he was much smaller than the norm. That's still the case Wink.

He also has a quite odd shaped foot, so we have often found it difficult to get school shoes but I'm still not prepared to buy them until the last two/three weeks of the school holidays in case his feet grow!

Maybe buy now/next week rather than wait until the week before school starts?

YellowLawn · 13/08/2017 23:21

not yet. will do it right before school starts.

Allgirlskidsanddogs · 13/08/2017 23:30

Yup, always buy them on the way to a particular annual event.
Dd1's feet grew rapidly up to about age 8, DD2 is a slower grower. Neither are easy to fit school shoes, so we need to get them whilst there is still a reasonable size range left, usually we don't get much choice of styles.
