I know it's not 9:00 yet, but if you go to the website you can get your application results now. I just did, and I am so so so so glad we got in to the school of our choice. Ok, WE didn't get in, DD did.

Yippee!!!!!

scanned this thread and was thinking i had a lucky escape - was house hunting in LBRuT a couple of years ago but ended up buying in the adjacent borough, where we seem to fairly lucky with primary schools.

amidaiwish · 03/11/2007 18:21

i know, it's a nightmare here. we pay massive premiums largely because of the excellent schools, then can't get in to the close ones anyway so may end up having to go private. grrrrrrrrrrrr....

are you in kingston?

ChipPYROMANIACminton · 03/11/2007 18:24

No, Spelthorne, so we get Surrey schools. Primary is fine, secondary not so good, but I don't have to worry about that or a few years. Might have to move to Kingston then for a shot a Tiffin !

Is this your first DC starting school?

amidaiwish · 03/11/2007 18:38

yes, DD1.
see you in the race for Tiffin!!! 8 years to go

ladygrinningsparklers · 03/11/2007 23:00

Our application form arrived yesterday...

gegs73 · 04/11/2007 17:53

We got ours last Thursday, all very daunting. I'm still not sure what to put down as my first choice either, though I know in reality I have very little 'choice'

amidaiwish · 04/11/2007 20:48

does anyone know whether the schools know whether they are your no.1 choice or not?

should we put down a school as no.1 that we know we would be happy with and are likely to get in to, or do we go for the one we really really want but are unlikely to get in to and then blow our chance for the other one because we put it as no.2?

....

amidaiwish · 05/11/2007 08:49

am

gegs73 · 05/11/2007 09:47

As I understand it, its equal preference.

Therefore if you apply for a school which is not your closest but your first preference even if it is unlikely you will get in, this will not blow your chances at your closer more realistic school if you are not offered a place. It is not all 1st choice people considered for a school first, then 2nd choice even if they are closer etc.

So even if you put down your closest school 3rd, you would not be 3rd in line to be considered for it. You would be considered alongside all the people who had put it first but would only be offered a place if your other 1st two preferences were rejected.

Goodness thats a long explanation!!! Hope it makes sense if you are still not clear I'd phone the admissions people at the coucil, they could help you out.

amidaiwish · 05/11/2007 09:52

thank you. that helps a lot.
ok another question
if we apply for a church school, do they see the other schools you apply for?
if so, i need to apply for all church schools so they see this is most important to me...

gegs73 · 05/11/2007 10:02

I don't think so no. So you could put a church school as preference 3 but still theoretically get in if you were turned down at other schools. Also I'm pretty sure that they don't know the other schools you applied for, so it makes no difference if you apply for church or non church schools. Again I would check with admissions at the council to make sure but thats how I understand it.
