maybe thats not the real reason?

JonesTheSteam · 05/03/2007 13:03

God - DD would never be in school if we did that.

Currently has a sore knee.

Last week it was a sore foot.

lulumama · 05/03/2007 13:03

DD has a sore finger.

She shut it in a car door on Friday. She has broken the tip of her finger and has ripped the nailbed right up (as well as breaking the nail). She had a check up today and they are still unsure as to whether she should see a plastic surgeon, but have said they'll leave it for the time being.

She must NOT get it wet. She mustn't bang it, she mustnt use it too much. The hospital wont give extra dressings to cover any incidents - you have to go back up and get it redone. (This happened yesterday - DD washed her hands and the bandage was half falling off - thankfully I work in a hosp so one of the nurses did it for me when I arrived for duty).

He may have an abscess, he may have dislocated, he may have done the same as my DD. I'll upload pics later, you can see then just how sore a finger can be

My dd has been off school so much since she started reception. I always feel awful and as though people will be talking and worry what the teacher will think but it's not just been for nothing. She's had 2 chest infections, ear infections, a few bouts of sever d and v where she was off a whole week throwing up etc, an a couple of times when I've sent her in and the school has called to get her in the morning. She's off again now and has the dr's again this afternoon. Is all this illness normal? Going to ask the dr but I wonder if it has anything to do with her being prem.

wannaBeWhateverIWannaBe · 05/03/2007 13:12

a little girl at ds' preschool was off for about 5 days recently because she had a sore hand.

in actual fact she shut her hand in the internal garage door and almost sliced off the top of three of her fingers. was in a bandage for about three weeks.

IntergalacticWalrus · 05/03/2007 13:13

I did the same as your DD as a chkld VVV, with the smae outcome.

It hurt like fuck.

I was 6 and was off school for about a week, as the pain was unbearable.

(VVV, I had no treatment on mine, save for it being bandaged up etc, and it was fine!)

jodieG, has your dd previously been to preschool or nursery? if not it's highly normal for kids to get all manner of illnesses when they start to be in close proximity with several other children for the first time.

IG - I am a bit gutted because its her ring finger, and, well you know....also she is left handed adn I was worried it may be a problem, and also because she will naturally want to use that hand more so will be constantly banging and bumping it.

I am SO not looking forward to the nail coming off, which we were told today is inevitable.

Hopefully it will grow back, which I'd rather even if it was a bit wonky.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 05/03/2007 13:16

If you think about it - your fingers are designed to be sensitive, arent they?

IntergalacticWalrus · 05/03/2007 13:16

Mine was my ring finger on my RH. The nail has gown back fine. My finger looks a little wonky though.

hunkermunker · 05/03/2007 13:16

{{{VVV's DD}}} How is she today?

Hey, Curmudgeonlet, come 'ere and I'll tread on yer tail. You'll need it slathered in marmite for a week and No School, OK?

Will she have to have the nail removed? They did mine in aboput 4 seconds, and from what I remember it wasn't too painful, just uncomfortable

JodieG1 · 05/03/2007 13:18

Wannabe - she had a limited time at pre-school but was only there a couple of months really as she just didn't get on with it. Reception is the first full time and long term time she's spent around other kids. She had socialised but mainly with the same children.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 05/03/2007 13:19

Aw thanks IG, thats reassuring.

She's okay HM, but she wasnt keen on her dressing being taken off again. I had to be a bit of a bully and fight her, which wasnt nice. She's okay, she's getting on with it fine I guess, but, she keeps 'forgetting' its a problem until she does something and then realises it blardy hurts. They were thinking about putting it in a splint today to stop her banging it.

I have to say - I was v impressed with my two this morning. Despite DD having an appointment time they were running over an hour late and yet my two behaved really well in the waiting room. Was dreading it tbh.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 05/03/2007 13:20

The nail is "not viable" so they think it will fall off in due course. You can see bits of the nail bed poking up inbetween the split in the nail, and a few mm behind the cuticle.

hunkermunker · 07/03/2007 14:05

How is she today, VVV?

Harman, your DD's nail story made me wince - nails are something I'm SO squeamish about! Poor thing - how is it now?
