2 miles.... bus journey both ways with a five minute walk both ends... our catchment school was oversubscribed so they allocated us out of catchment.

5 minute walk

1 mile. 20 mins walk.

Used to be an hour and twenty each way. Public transport. Used it to cover all reading, number bonds, etc; so no homework once home.

Thank you.

Hiding, how old were they when they were doing that?

Used to be three miles to my nearest catchment school. We biked. Now they have moved due to the catchment school being an academy falling to bits and stuffed with bullies. It's now 13 miles in the car, but I don't begrudge it.

15 min walk.

Our private alternative would be 40 mins each way in the car. The car journey would be a massive time sink. 40 x 4 = 2hr 40 mins per day. You are also expected to turn out for sports teams on a sarurday. It's meant to be a great school. We are keeping it as back up in case things don't work out at the village school. In the additional 1hr and 40 mins of travelling you can do an awful lot of number bonds, reading etc at home. Personally I wouldn't sign up for a massive school run. Living near the school I can easily pop in to help with stuff, pick up DC if she is sick etc.
