Yes or no

If yes, what will you be doing with them?

OP posts:
Feenie · 02/05/2016 17:12

I can't believe people are encouraging kids to think striking is acceptable!

I can't believe that you tell your kids that it isn't. Don't you want them to stand for things that aren't acceptable?

mrz · 02/05/2016 17:15

Agree Feenie perhaps we need some history lessons

LittleNelle · 02/05/2016 17:23

Its quite sad how many parents just don't give a shit about the education system in this country - caring about children's education is somehow being precious/special snowflake? I guess so long as academies provide 8-6 childcare who cares about the actual curriculum or teaching. We could probably get rid of teachers and replace them with cheaper educare technicians anyway...

DeadAsADildo · 02/05/2016 17:25

I think that voting them out or writing to Nikki Morgan/ your MP is the most effective way to show my feelings on education, health, welfare, immigration, social inequality, housing crisis or any other issue .

I'm sending my dc in, she knows my feelings on the SATS but I leave it to the teachers to strike, when I would support them. I think the dcs are too young to be involved in political action, they will be representing their parent's views rather than their own.

Stop being PA. Just because people don't agree with or aren't 'striking' it doesn't mean they don't care!

LittleNelle · 02/05/2016 17:28

The posters who think its precious or that striking is wrong clearly don't give a monkeys.

Absolute rubbish.

So it's your way or no way then? Not agreeing to striking does not equal doesn't care. To say it does is very childish.

Pipbin · 02/05/2016 17:37

Why isn't it being planned during sats week?

One of the women who was organising this was on the radio earlier she said that the reason they weren't doing it over SATs week was that it won't change anything as they would have to still do the tests when they get back. Also they understand that children missing out in the tests will screw over the school and they don't want that to happen.

Rosebud05 · 02/05/2016 17:41

Strike action has been the key driving force behind the occupational privileges that most of us enjoy in the UK.

Like legislation about work hours, shift patterns, workplace conditions, paid holidays, sickness absence, equal pay for women, health and safety and lots, lots more.

I can't believe that anyone would pretend that strike action isn't essential at times, let alone 'unacceptable'.

Rosebud05 · 02/05/2016 17:43

I think a lot of parents don't know how much things have changed this year tbh.

It's not to do with testing per se. It's being tested against a curriculum that they haven't been taught that is one of the objections.

kippersyllabub · 02/05/2016 18:13

I think there is some faulty logic correlating disagreement with the attempt to whip up media attention over SATS with disinterest in education.

I care deeply about my children's education. I allow their attainment to be measured just as I'm happy to have their height and weight monitored, and for them to have hearing and vision checks. I care about that too.

NewStartNewName · 02/05/2016 18:26

Yes, we are going to the local park and woods

TwigTheWonderKid · 02/05/2016 19:14

Yes WankyDailyCuntMail both my child's class teacher and his headmaster are fully supportive. And we whilst we are having a day off from ridiculous SATs cramming, he is not having a day off from education.

TwigTheWonderKid · 02/05/2016 19:16

And the action cannot be conducted during SATs week as there is no SATs week. Schools are able to administer the tests during several weeks in May.

AdoraKiora · 02/05/2016 19:19

No, I can't take a day off work and have no childcare.

But I support it.

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 02/05/2016 19:53

Just because I'm not keeping my DS off it doesn't mean I agree with what's gone on this year. It's depressing. My DS has suddenly realised he can't be exceeding expectations in maths (he finished year 5 as a level 7). That's the only thing which has sparked a conversation about the unfairness of it all with him. However, I don't agree with using children like this to make a point. That's just MY opinion though and I don't judge those who are keeping their children home tomorrow.

mrz · 02/05/2016 20:01

The DfE seem to think KS1 tests are tomorrow ...a total shambles!

Pipbin · 02/05/2016 20:11

There is no bloody hope is there if the DFE don't know when they are!

Feenie · 02/05/2016 21:03

I swear to god, trained monkeys would do a better job.

AngieBolen · 02/05/2016 21:13

No.

And nobody I know if RL is either.

MY Y6 DD couldn't care less about SATs. If I didn't personally know teachers, and read t'internet I think the whole SATs thing could pass me by.

My concern is DD seeing her SATs results. I hope she won't. She's made fantastic progress in the past year, but it won't be good enough.

Mottled · 02/05/2016 21:16

No and also have not heard anyone in real life that is planning on keeping the children off, although I guess I will only know for sure at the school gates tomorrow. I can only speak from personal experience but our primary school has improved over the last 3 years after a failed ofsted inspection and I haven't witnessed any upset over SATS, I don't actually think that there is anything wrong with testing and assessing children.

When I was at primary school, the majority of learning involved copying from textbooks/blackboards, things have drastically improved. I get the feeling that in the real world support for this strike is very low.

Coldtoeswarmheart · 02/05/2016 21:22

No. Until I opened this thread I had no idea there was a strike.

DS seems pretty unfazed by the SATS, and we're not making any kind of comment on them to him.

mogloveseggs · 02/05/2016 21:41

Not striking but am going in to tell dd teacher that she won't be doing any more homework regarding sats. She's so stressed as the school keep pushing her and the others. The amount of work sent home in the last few weeks is ridiculous. Gcses will be a doddle compared to this.

Coldtoeswarmheart · 02/05/2016 21:45

DS has had no special homework. Are we unusual? Confused

PatriciaHolm · 02/05/2016 21:48

Ours have had no SATS related homework either.
