Permission for an External Eductional Assessment

Dear Mumsnetters

Does anyone know if there's a national policy relating to automatically allowing permission for a child to be absent from school to attend an external educational assessment?... Or is it at the discretion of the Head?

My DS is due to have a progress assessment with the Dyslexia Institute whom he's been monitored and assessed by prior to starting his current school over the lays 18 months.

The assessment will mean he would have to leave school mid morning over the lunch hour and returned back to school immediately afterwards - hopefully by 2pm.

Thank you in advance.

Thanks mrz

What do you think I should do? I can ignore the way I was spoken to but I'd like to know based on my rights to know information and progress as you describe what I can do. The school is closed now.
I'm definitely going to mention it to the Cafcass officer when I meet them but I feel really disappointed and let down by this teachers attitude and the school.

My DS was given a slip on Monday (in his bag) with the name of his teacher for next year. He told me yesterday he'd had to exchange his slip as he'd been given the wrong one. The slip my DS was given was for Year 3 children going up into year 4. I genuinely think the teacher has thought my DS is a year 3 child and not year 4 as he mentioned something a few weeks ago.

If residence isn't reversed his class teacher will remain the same so now after yesterday I am even more concerned. I feel I need to voice something even if it's just a catalogue of what's happened and what I expected in return.

I would advise contacting Parent Partnership (may have different name ours has been renames SENDIASS) with a view to an early meeting with the teacher in September. Unfortunately not much you can do regarding school until then.

Thank you. Sorry to keep asking questions... Is this something the council could confirm (name of organisation I mean?). I'll do a google search. I'm so annoyed as I asked in my email on Wednesday to meet briefly with the SENCo. I feel like I have been blatantly brushed to one side and if residency is not reversed I don't fancy the parent - teacher relationship at all. My DS was upset after seeing how she spoke to me.

The teacher is question has had quiet a bit of time here and there off school (not sure why) but I don't think she's in the job for the love of the children if you see what I mean. It's just all very disconcerting as I'm not sure if they know what they are doing.

Also, what do you think about my request for school books being ignored? Surely in view of the circumstances they should have been split. I have many treasures my DS has done in the past I've got on display. This year I have nothing except his reading diary and screenshots of work up to March.

Have contacted the parent partnership... It does have a slightly different name which I guess is regional. Thanks for all your help.
