I have a very nervous dd this morning, wanted to hear other parents thoughts or experiences this week!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Thanks masqurade,Mandzi and Slightly, I'm taking him, DS2 and my MIL for a posh afternoon tea tomorrow straight after school. He can have an extra macaroon!

CountryLovingGirl · 14/05/2015 19:06

DS sat the maths papers today. He said the 3-5 were easy and he was confident with those. He said he felt he had done 'a good job' with both level 6 papers BUT ran out of time (as I knew he would). He said he missed the last 2 questions on both the level 6 papers (I think that equates to 8 marks lost). I know I shouldn't be bothered as level 5 is still above average but I think he can only afford to lose another 10 marks to still get the 6 (pass mark is 32-50 out of the 50 marks).
I tested him a few times, last couple of days, and went over questions he had, previously, got wrong. He was fine yesterday with all of them. I knew the time would get him. Hope he has still got a 6 even with 2 questions unanswered on both papers. Wish they had 45 mins per paper!

lljkk · 14/05/2015 19:16

2 marks per L6 Q says DS... who also didn't have time to answer 2 questions today. Looking forward to lots of fun & games now.

Sets seem to be quite fluid at DD's comp, she's always telling stories of people who have moved up or down science, math or English.

canny1234 · 14/05/2015 19:30

Dd2 also reported hat level 6 Maths was OK.She thinks she might get a 6 in Maths but not in English. She also reported that the teacher checked the papers for correct answers and if they were wrong handed them back for a second go Hmm.Both of mine confirmed that!

ChaiseLounger · 14/05/2015 19:58

Canny, that's disgusting. Shock

sunnydayinmay · 14/05/2015 20:06

Canny, that's awful. Makes a mockery of the whole thing.

vindscreenviper · 14/05/2015 20:09

This is the second ks2 sat thread I've been on this week with reports of cheating, bloody awful thing to do. The dc aren't daft they know what's happened, it's shameful, akin to telling them that their hard work isn't good enough.Angry

elmwoo · 14/05/2015 20:10
Shock
wheresthebeach · 14/05/2015 20:18

So demotivating for the kids if there's teacher led cheating.

How can the school not see that behaving this way diminishes them in the kids eyes? They won't feel good about passing in those circumstances.

sunnydayinmay · 14/05/2015 20:19

It's hard, but I think I would report. Tough on the children, though. Sad

kla73 · 14/05/2015 20:32

I agree with the others Canny - you should report. What message does that send to the children about cheating? Puts you in a very difficult position.....

rabbitstew · 14/05/2015 21:04

I would definitely report and be absolutely livid with the teacher and the school. It takes away any sense of pride and achievement.

var123 · 14/05/2015 21:16

I wouldn't report her without knowing more. What will the consequences be if you do report?

I'd be livid but I wouldn't do it because it might be a sign of desperation on the teacher's part.

vindscreenviper · 14/05/2015 21:30

What will the consequences be if you do report?
There really shouldn't be any, and if there are they should be dealt witb by the Head and GB.

kla73 · 14/05/2015 21:35

I assume she must have felt quite desperate but it doesn't make it ok and I would still report.

Feenie · 14/05/2015 21:38

What do you mean, there shouldn't be any?!

The teacher could lose their job and be prosecuted, and the children's results annulled. Awful for the children, but rightly so. Makes a mockery of the hard work shown by these children, and of teachers and children up and down the country.

vindscreenviper · 14/05/2015 21:42

Sorry Feenie I should have been clearer, I meant that there shouldn't be any consequences for the reporting parent or the way the school treats their DC.

LikeASoulWithoutAMind · 14/05/2015 21:46
Shock
Feenie · 14/05/2015 21:50

Ahhh, I see! No, there would be no repercussions there - the school would not be told who had reported. I doubt you would be the only one anyway, that's scandalous behaviour on the part of the teacher. Silly, stupid and illegal behaviour.

canny1234 · 14/05/2015 22:11

I've spoken to my kids and neither of them were involved .They said it was entirely random and not a big deal .Obviously in their eyes it wasn't cheating!I have to say they really don't want to talk about SATs any more - they have just had enough this week and I really don't blame them.
No,I'm not reporting .I do think this is a sign of teacher desperation with a new not particularly supportive ,poor head. We're not staying in the state system anyway and this will not affect us but it does make me wonder about the mediocre Comp results round here with brilliant high level so-called SATs results. It just goes to show how flawed the system is.

canny1234 · 14/05/2015 22:12

Not staying in the state system!

proudmama2772 · 14/05/2015 22:17

The thought that a 10/11 year olds path in education is almost set in stone at such a young age is terrifing. It seems to me that if you do not attain high enough SATs to be in one of the top sets entering secondary school, you are almost on a path where only a certain level of achievement is expected at GCSE.

shebird - you are so spot on
what's even worse is how ks1 is used as a predictor for ks2. My ds got a 2b on reading and is targeted for a 4b at the end of year 6. However, he has already scored a 4c on a mock in year 5. A lot of schools do boosters in Year 6, but I think its for the kids who got a 3 and are set to get a 5 that the school targets based on Ofsted expectations. What's worse is they were looking for something to band reception kids in foundation stage.

Yet no picket signs - no riots. People stoically accepting whatever academic attainment band academic caste their child is classed into.

Feenie · 14/05/2015 22:23
Hmm
proudmama2772 · 14/05/2015 22:30

ok Feenie

What's the skeptical emoticon for? You think I'm talking absolute bullocks.
