Would a good teacher ask the child to put his jumper on?

I ask this question for my friend, as I don't really know the answer. First, to put it in the context, my friend's child is in Year 1 at a school which is not the first choice (for my friend). So she is often anxious on whether the school is good or not.

Yesterday, there was this story. As you know, for the PE session, the children would change clothes. After the PE session, the child changed back into his uniform, but he did not put his jumper on. Instead, he just placed the jumper into his bag. When the child came home, he got a cold, although it should be noted that he still got his coat on.

My friend was wondering whether in a better school, a teacher would ask the child to put his jumper on, with the coat on later, before he left the class.

Do you think a better teacher would do so, or is my friend too sensitive?

Thank you

There's also talk of a toilet TA who asks every child if they need the toilet and keeps a checklist of visits for parents.

And it's then it's the TA's fault if a child has an accident. We had that happen for real in my school. Child was asked numerous times and refused. Wet themselves and parents blamed school, saying the child often left it to the last minute and we should have allowed for that Hmm .

Oh dear, does that slide us into Requires Improvement? Or Special Measures? Blush

clam my friend. I think you should avoid all school threads on here for the benefit of your blood pressure!! It's insane the things parents question. And yes, I do remember the dehydration thread. Its all enough to make me quit teaching. Except I decided before becoming one that I wasn't cut out for dealing with that many irritating parents so didn't do it Xmas Grin

Atticus. Refund and compensation. I'm going to sue them for the cost of a new coat as well as my time waiting for her to remove it.

So the boy was running a temperature from his viral infection and so felt hot and didn't put his jumper on.

A five year old in t- shirt and coat is perfectly fine.

It's all right, chipping. I'm lying down. Grin

Is this a culture thing? In Germany they are always insisting my DS wear more clothes. It's absolutely ROASTING in his kindergarten and he's comfortable in a t-shirt, but they expect him to wear at least two layers and long sleeves. His head is drenched in sweat every day.

I made a joking comment to a friend about how everyone judged me for my English tendencies to let him decide if he was cold himself and she looked at me shockedly and said "Yes, well, he probably is a BIT underdressed you know." Blush

What, in the country which invented lederhosen? Grin

Bertie I had the same issue with my DS, the teacher kept telling him to keep his jumper on, while he is dripping in sweat. It took me pointing out if he over heat he will projectile vomit every where, now they leave it up to him as to whether he is wearing his jumper.

I have to say my dc school seems to be very hot, but I don't know whether that's because our house isn't over hot, heating only on 18.

Ah, but it's warm in October, clam :)
