Prolonged part time school-how can I help dd?

Dd2 will be doing just mornings till January. I know this is sensible but I'm wondering exactly how much she will miss out on? Will the school give me ideas of what I should do at home with her or can I really just do what we have been doing at home anyway (drawing, painting, reading, baking, watching tv etc)?

The hospital out of the area wrote the care plan. I'm not sure why training didn't happen the senco just said it wasn't law till 1 sep so would be dealt with after that date.
I've spent all aft putting together my own training pack for all staff involved which, if read before she starts will help them immensely and hopefully if I get long enough I wilbe able to do practical training the day before she goes as I only get the one appt to do it

Oh Hedgehog they sound dreadful! I wonder if you could get hold of your dd's consultant and explain that she is not safe to start? We instigated statutory assessment at pre-school due to my and our consultant's disgust at complete lack of support for (at the time) child who only signed and could not walk.

The senco sounds useless. Are you sure you want her to go to this school? We have a new class teacher in sept for dd2 but she has still been trained. It was already organised at her statement review after Easter.

Iam doing an hour training tomorrow then hopefully I might be allowed in again before she starts officially Monday. Friday they have a meet the teacher morning which I might try and use to do a bit of training after too if I'm able to. They have left it quite late but I'm going to try my best. Very stressful though.

Dont start her officially monday if you're not happy. Have you had a long chat with them?

Can you arrange a meeting with the senco & class teacher to discuss your dd starting as the school is obviously not ready to keep your dd safe? I agree that she shouldn't start untik they are fully trained and ready. If the senco was saying they didn't need to start until sept 1 (not sure if this is right!) then the school are not ready and it is now sept 3. The school nursing team should really be organising the training, it is shocking how some schools can't seem to incorporate the support needed for children with complex needs that they are supposed to. Some settings just don't get it.

Your DD is entitled to a full time education from the September after she turns four.

If it is agreed- if YOU agree to part time schooling, then that's fine, but school cannot enforce this. Since she's still entitled to full time provision, why aren't the school sending the TA home with her to work with her at home in the afternoon? It would be a great opportunity for you to train the TA too.

Guidance here

Can't CnP, but look at the section entitled "Unacceptable Practice" on page 15.

Just wondering how it's going hedgehog. Useful from tethers about TA going home with you. She is only part time because they are not properly prepared. We are going part-time and slowly becoming full-time as it is better for dd2.

Hedgehog, if your husband is thinking about going away for a holiday then he should be capable of looking after your toddler while you go into school.

He needs to man up a bit.

Edenviolet · 05/09/2014 20:53

It actually went well today. I had been in yesterday to do training, did a bit more today and will be in class next week showing the TA what to do then when she feels confident I will leave dd.

Sunna- the holiday dh was considering (but will not be going on ) was in about a years time. Currently he can't look after ds2 alone as can't lift his arms so can't carry him and is having severe problems with walking due to damage from repeated knee dislocations which he is awaiting surgery for. I'm hoping to not need to be in class for too long with ds as TA is doing amazingly well and I think after a few days she will actually be fine looking after dd. They will have a phone too in class so will text me bg levels and phone with any issues at all.
