How many do you get and how many would you like?
Just thinking about restructuring ours, going from 2 to 3.....

We have three. S'fine.

MammaMedusa · 14/03/2013 20:14

We have two. Three would be better in some ways, or two more spaced out. February - October is a long stretch.

OldBeanbagz · 14/03/2013 20:14

Two but we can pop in to see the class teacher before school whenever we like or make an appointment if we need longer with them.

About right for me.

LynetteScavo · 14/03/2013 20:19

I get 2 at primary and one at high school

I always make an apt' to meet the class teacher a couple of weeks into the start of the school year if I don't know the teacher, though. I will probably make another apt' (probably before school which will last about 20 mins) after Christmas, just to check things are going smoothly.)

But I do this because I work, and don't get to "check in" with the teacher on a daily basis."

High school teachers are very good at staying in contact by email, so no need to see them more than once a year.

sittinginthesun · 14/03/2013 20:38

We have two, but I always end up speaking with the teacher after the annual school report. I think I would prefer three.

leesmum · 14/03/2013 20:42

we have 1 in Nov, 1 in March and then the final one before they finish for summer.

OohMrDarcy · 14/03/2013 20:43

2 here, one 'settling in' one in Oct and then another feb / march time (next week this year)

I find it a bit odd that there isn't one after the reports come out tbh

trinity0097 · 14/03/2013 20:45

Our parents get one every two terms, so that means that if say in yr 7 they have two, autumn and summer terms, then in yr 8 they get one in the spring term, then back to two in yr 9 etc...

BackforGood · 14/03/2013 20:47

At Primary, 3.
1 in October, 1 fairly early in Spring Term, 1 fairly early in Summer Term.
It's a bit of 'overkill' IMVHO, I think 2 would be fine, as long as the obvious rider remains that where there are issues, you can arrange other appts.

(It does of course feel difficult when you go down to 1 at secondary, at a time when everything is changing for your dc, and you don't know any of the staff either)

KatherineKrupnik · 14/03/2013 20:50

We have 2 in Infants.

One was in the autumn term, next one will be in the summer term. I wouldn't mind if there was one in the spring term, always happy to talk about my PFB, but I don't feel the need for it.

simpson · 14/03/2013 21:04

We also have 2 the first one is Oct/Nov time and the 2nd is next week.

In the final term there is an evening to go in and look at your child's work and an awards evening (combined).

spudmasher · 14/03/2013 21:05

Thank you for the feedback.
I think having the final one after reports/ test results is most helpful.

BackforGood · 14/03/2013 21:07

We used to have one at the end of the year, and I always found it completely pointless, tbh - it there are any issues / areas of weakness / concerns, then it's all a bit too late by then, surely ?

ilovepowerhoop · 14/03/2013 21:09

we have 2 - one was tonight and the other is in November. They get an end of year report in June and an awards ceremony in the local church at the very end of term (which is the end of June as we are in Scotland).

spudmasher · 14/03/2013 21:12

Could be pointless Backforgood, but lots of our parents like the test results explained and are EAL- we provide translators and they could help parents make sense of the report and ask any questions

AWimbaWay · 14/03/2013 21:13

We have 2, like ilovepowerhoop one this week and another in November. It's plenty, if I had any concerns I'd be more than welcome to ask the teacher at the end of the school day.

Picturesinthefirelight · 14/03/2013 21:17

Two. November and March.

Chewbecca · 14/03/2013 21:21

3, 1 per term. The first just a 'settling in' one with form teacher. The second a long one where we get to meet all subject teachers. The final another 5 minutes with form teacher again. The form teacher has a short comment from any other teachers your child is taught by at the quickies.
( Juniors)
I'm happy with the set up.

BackforGood · 14/03/2013 21:24

Fair enough then spud - horses for courses and all that.
My experience (both as a parent, and as a teacher) is that nobody wants the July one because they've just had the report, but then I've not worked in schools where that is the situation Smile

RedPencils · 14/03/2013 21:28

2 (nov and feb)
I'd prefer one towards the end of year as well although you can see the teacher after school if you need to.

ilovepowerhoop · 14/03/2013 21:29

p.s. as well as the parents night we also have a 'meet the teacher' session not long after they start the new school year - is held in the afternoon rather than in the evening. Gives a chance to see who the teacher is and learn what they are going to be covering over the next school year.

wheredidiputit · 14/03/2013 21:36

We have 3. One a term. We also changing how school reports are going to be done.

Detailed one in spring term showing currant levels and targets to meet at end of year. This should help set up interventions/boosters to help children meet the levels.

spudmasher · 14/03/2013 21:39

Meet the teacher is good plus curriculum info..........at beginning of year....hmmmmmm. Can't have four. I'll be lynched.

OP posts:
ilovepowerhoop · 14/03/2013 21:45

p.s. the meet the teacher session brings all the parents in at the same time so there arent individual appointments and the session lasts maybe 30-40 minutes

wheredidiputit · 14/03/2013 21:46

Spud

We get a A4 sheet with a detailed breakdown as to what our children are going to taught that term. Maybe that something to think about.
