Level 6 Maths - threshold increased ?

TunaPastaBake · 10/07/2012 16:42

I gather , rumour only, that the pass threshold has increased from 25 / 50 to 34/50 this year .

Therefore a number of children who would have passed last year (I know only a trial) would not get a Level 6 this year.

Any ideas ?

Any thoughts ? - as I said only a rumour

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

It's correct the threshold have been raised from 25 to 34 for Maths level 6 but the thresholds do change every year based on the difficulty of the questions

indignatio · 10/07/2012 16:58

Are all the thresholds significantly higher this year?

mrz · 10/07/2012 17:03

No reading level 5 has gone down maths level 4 & 5 has gone up

TunaPastaBake · 10/07/2012 17:08

Thanks Mrz - looks like a number of children who were expected to get Level 6 now haven't - well not that secondary school would have taken any notice .

I posted pretty much the same thread. Even though it should demonstrate a similar level of ability it still seems like a big jump to me, and I don't think I would have wanted my dc to go in for it if I had known this. I doubt that more than 1 of the children in that class will have got it. I am concerned that the threshold has gone up in the other paper as well.

Anyone got their results yet?

ChickensHaveNoLips · 10/07/2012 17:11

DS got a level 6 in literacy, and his best friend got it in numeracy. They are the only level 6's in the school. Twelve children were entered.

NoComet · 10/07/2012 17:13

Sad that means DD2 is likely to be disappointed.

I know the primary were trying to push borderline pupils because of being roasted by OFSTED.

Of course they aren't secure L6 on a few after school classes, but the whole thing is a bit much to explain to a very competitive 11 y.

TunaPastaBake · 10/07/2012 17:16

Mrz - would a school know that the marking threshold has gone up before the kids sit the exam ?

Seems alot of work has gone into this by the teachers and children only to be left with a lot of dissapointment.

In same situation, Starball. No way he'll get it, but hey...
Hope he's forgotten all about sats now that he's all excited about high school.

TunaPastaBake · 10/07/2012 17:18

Haven't got my childs results as yet - I think the school only got them this morning so still sifting through .

According to tes forum the thresholds for all subjects and levels are only just out.

mrz · 10/07/2012 17:18

No TunaPastaBake the thresholds were only published yesterday

simbo · 10/07/2012 17:20

Do the schools have to do anything other than staple the results sheet on to the back of the report? I mean, presumably they are given the levels for each pupil, not just the raw marks?

MirandaWest · 10/07/2012 17:20

Wouldn't the threshold have gone up due to the paper being "easier"?
When do thresholds for SATs papers get worked out - is it before or part way through the marking?

Can you point me in the direction of this year's thesholds compared to those of last year's ? Sorry - not trying to hijack the thread.

ChickensHaveNoLips · 10/07/2012 17:56

Congrats to your DD, pointy :)

pointythings · 10/07/2012 19:15

And to your DS too, Chickens. And no, she will not be getting a diamond-encrusted iPad filled with truffle oil and foie gras for her efforts.
