School reports received yest for ds1 just turned 8 coming to end of yr3 and ds2 just turned 6 coming to end of yr1. Both boys have done really well. Ds1 has moved up a lot level wise this yr ending on 3b s across the board. Ds2 passed his phonic test and has achieved 1a across the board. Both teachers have said what a delight they are to teach how they can b trusted and relied upon in school. But what has gotmy goat is head teacher has commented 'some good progress'. Is this not just bloody miserable and a more positive comment would have been well deserved ??

Oh please?

TheFallenMadonna · 07/07/2012 16:29

How many reports has the Head had to comment on? Really, they're doing well, they've got positive comments. I'd be really pleased myself...

thisisyesterday · 07/07/2012 16:30

what isn't positive about some good progress?

How many kids are in the school?

How many reports do you think the head has to write comments on?

Come on, be realistic. The comments from the teachers were good and tailored to your kids - be glad the teacher's didn't write "good work and progress" - because that might be all you'll get at secondary school - even from the teachers.

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 07/07/2012 17:51

DS1 and DS3 never once got more than a signature from the head. DS2 got a comment every bloody year, not usually so positive. I'd think yourself lucky...

balia · 07/07/2012 17:54

He really, really wanted to say that your two were the loveliest and cleverest children in the whole school but he's not allowed to

FallenCaryatid · 07/07/2012 18:10

If only the head wrote one line of the truth that must remain unspoken...

NoComet · 07/07/2012 18:13

DD2 only gets a report from the head because he teachers her.
She knows which are his comments because he spells her name wrong and her main teacher doesn't.

snowball3 · 07/07/2012 19:02

I wouldn't want the Head to know my son well enough to make any commentGrin

AnnaMosity · 07/07/2012 19:06

You need to get a grip.
Ours comments on every one too. 240

SunflowersSmile · 07/07/2012 19:13

I have to say although our Head writes one sentence at the end of the report- it always shows [in my experience] she knows my ds or at least has read the report. So -rightly or wrongly- I would like the op be disappointed with 'some good progress'. [over 400 pupils].

I think it must be extraordinarily difficult to come up with a wide variety of positive comments that will satisfy all parents! Not sure what type of rave review you are expecting him/her to give but think the comments are fair and encouraging which is probably about as much as you can expect from someone who doesn't know all the children in all their 'glory' - unlike their class teachers!

MoaningMinnieWhingesAgain · 07/07/2012 19:20

I would love to see 'Never met this child but sounds like they are doing fine' If DD is seeing the HT regularly it would generally mean trouble Grin

insanityscratching · 07/07/2012 20:40

Our HT wrote on my dd's "I love to watch L at work or at play as she is just so full of life" I'm trying to work out whether that's a polite way of saying she's a bit full on Grin
Our HT writes a full paragraph on all 370 reports so if he has to resort to stock responses I think it's understandable really.

alphabite · 07/07/2012 20:42

YABU. A headteacher has to write on every report and often proof reads every report too. This is a massively lengthy task. What else would you want him/her to say?

KitKatGirl1 · 07/07/2012 22:29

We get a whole paragraph which is very individually worded by the HT. But then it's a school of only 79 pupils. The HT does guided reading with all three classes on a rotation so reads with all the children every 5 weeks and also takes them for PE on occasion. He knows them all really well. It's why we chose the school. But some people on here are very anti small schools and mixed year group classes. It's swings and roundabouts.
In a much larger school I can't imagine the Head would be able to do all that ours does.

teacherwith2kids · 08/07/2012 09:00

I have two, differently worded, full paragraphs from the head of my DC's school - a 450 pupil primary. I am quite impressed ... though my children are probably 'noticeable' in a positive way (DS plays in the school sports teams which the head coaches, and DD is just one of those children!)....

As a teacher whose reports have a note added by the head - yes. Well, not exactly a bad comment, but a very strongly-worded statement about an area needing significant improvement!

picnicbasketcase · 08/07/2012 10:37

The HT of my DC school doesn't write any comments on their reports at all due to it being a very big school. You'll probably find he's written basically the same thing on all of the reports.

BehindLockNumberNine · 08/07/2012 10:42

Our head wrote 'congratulations on the positives in your report' or a variation thereof on every one of the 319 reports he had to comment on.

I can guarantee that he would not have read 319 reports and I doubt your head won't have read your ds's reports.

Just rejoice in the fact your dc are doing well and move on.

BehindLockNumberNine · 08/07/2012 10:42

I doubt your head would have..
