DD has got a level 5a-is this ok?

She's just had her Apgar score. I know she'll be one of the younger ones in her year and I probably seem a bit pushy, but I don't really know what all these scores mean. I really think she's really quite gifted and is almost certainly Oxbridge material.

Is there anything I can do to push her over the summer? Workbooks maybe?

Pah! My dc all scored higher than that when they were still in the womb. Have you thought about getting a tutor for her?

snoopyplaystennis · 06/07/2012 20:52

Unless she is fluent in mandarin, Russian and latin and grade 6 on the cello/banjo I am afraid she will never amount to anything - sorry

ChickensHaveNoLips · 06/07/2012 20:54

I'm so sorry, OP. You must be terribly disappointed. Level 6 is where it's at

Savannahgirl · 06/07/2012 20:54

Sorry if I seem pedantic, but isn't an Apgar score, the test they give newborns?
If you mean Sats score, then yes I think 5a is about as high as you can go at Primary School.

PorkyandBess · 06/07/2012 20:55

Sorry to break it to you, but she's decidedly below average.

A tutor over the summer may help, but it's a long shot.

Feenie · 06/07/2012 20:56

No it isn't, Savannahgirl.

mercibucket · 06/07/2012 20:59

Oh it's such a disappointment isn't it? I know as my cleaner's child got a very similar result and has gone on to rob houses. Still, at least he's good with his hands. Maybe something like home economics will be more her level? Puree making?

?????????????

MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe · 06/07/2012 21:02

I'd second the private tutoring but I think the best you can hope for is an ASBO. Sad

Peggotty · 06/07/2012 21:03

Aw have you just had a baby Congrats!!

Or is it just a straightforward pisstake thread? I usually get it wrong.

mrz · 06/07/2012 21:05

Have you considered KUMON [runs]

SoozyWoozy · 06/07/2012 21:06

Apgar in school? Eh?

maybe thats why I was a crap midwife

Savannahgirl · 06/07/2012 21:09

What does it measure feenie?

I'm not being awkward, but I genuinely thought it was the test they give babies 1 minute and 5 minutes after birth. Never heard of it used at school unless I'm being supremely daft and totally misunderstood the thread Blush

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 06/07/2012 21:12

She's obviously a 'bright' child, but is being failed by her first teachers. (That's you, letseatgrandma Wink )

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 06/07/2012 21:13

You can get a level 6 in primary school, savannah...

BillComptonstrousers · 06/07/2012 21:13

You are right Savannah girl!

Savannahgirl · 06/07/2012 21:13

Oh - I am being supremely daft.....you meant 5a isn't as high as SATS go.

Sorry Grin

mrz · 06/07/2012 21:14

I think you've misunderstood the thread Savannahgirl
Feenie was saying 5a isn't as high as you go in primary (there isn't a limit)

dearprudence · 06/07/2012 21:16

What's important is that she's happy. Lots of children only achieve 5a, and go on to live perfectly fulfilling lives.

Savannahgirl · 06/07/2012 21:17

Thanks billcomptonstrousers - I seem to posting at cross purposes!

Think I'll scuttle away nowBlush

SoozyWoozy · 06/07/2012 21:17

savannah I'm confused too.

Want to have a Wine and watch this unfold??!!

SoozyWoozy · 06/07/2012 21:18

Ah... it just clicked.

I think.

pointythings · 06/07/2012 21:20

I feel for you, OP - we do all like to feel our DCs are special, don't we? As I said, you have my sympathy - neither of my DDs were awarded their Masters' Degrees until they were 9 months, and only one of them was doing astrophysics...

Still, they'll make perfectly good female bishops, I expect.
