To Kumon or not to Kumon. That is the question.

DD is starting school in September. Below are the Pros and Cons I have been debating recently.

  1. She is bright, so should be okay without extra help in school
  2. It is too early to put her through this
  3. Kumon is expensive and time consuming.

The Pros

  1. It may give her that bit of extra confidence at school
  2. Earlier is better as then she can grow with that system
  3. Its not so expensive as to be prohibitive.

I really cant decide either way. Please someone help?

redglow

I am only defending my week old post because a) the Op asked directly and b) you chose to say we were behaving like children.

That's the wonderful thing about MN - you can't control the direction the thread will take. I opened a thread about phonics this morning and was very surprised to see a conversation about castrating rams. Smile

we call them tups up here feenie Grin

Feenie · 24/06/2012 10:15

Wow, you learn something new every day! Grin

redglow · 24/06/2012 10:16

I hadn't looked at this thread for a few days when I went back to it all I read was you all going on about the deleted quote. It was boring to have to go all through to find the bits on kumon which I was interested in. Not who said what on a deleted thread which I never read in the first place.

tis my misspent childhood cutting off bits of male sheep Grin

mrz · 24/06/2012 10:20

redglow if you want to know about kumon this probably isn't the place to look

redglow · 24/06/2012 10:23

I know quite a lot about kumon, was just interested in people's opinions that's all. Just found it quite interesting don't usually ever go into this bit. Just went into the active bit and came across this.

mrz · 24/06/2012 10:26

There are some old threads with contributions from kumon tutors

clam · 24/06/2012 10:48

Sometimes threads go off at a tangent. That's MN for you. In fact, I got told off earlier in this one for alluding to the age of the OP's child and was informed that the thread had moved on from that issue. That'll be the issue that was mentioned right from the off, of a 4 year old being considered for Kumon.

You cannot police threads to go where you want them to go, redglow.

mrz · 24/06/2012 10:49

Age is not a particularly interesting subject. Anyone can get old. All you have to do is live long enough.

mrz · 24/06/2012 11:06

I can't ...it makes me cough

mrz · 24/06/2012 11:08

My dear doctor, I am surprised to hear you say that I am coughing very badly, as I have been practising all night.

Not who said what on a deleted thread which I never read in the first place.

I see. So you are criticising me for defending something you didn't even read....Hmm

redglow · 24/06/2012 14:43

Feenie won't bother comming back at you because I feel I am almost getting down to your level let's just agree to disagree on this one. Let's not start another argument for everyone to read and join in on.

Feenie · 24/06/2012 15:02

My level? Confused

You've already said you don't know what you're talking about, redglow.

FYI - saying you 'won't bother comming back at' me (sic) and then insulting me is a contradiction.

Now who sounds like a 9 year old Wink

mrz · 24/06/2012 15:09

I find it strange you are happy to condone posts you haven't read and attack a poster who did read the offending posts Hmm

redglow · 24/06/2012 17:31

Mrz I didn't condone the post that I had not read I just said it was deleted and it was over with. You can't keep going on for days it's not as though thatpost has been repeated. I never once said she was write to write it there is a few other people that were deleted so they must have said something wrong too.

If anything the personal attack was on you and those quotes. But in the end they got quite amusing.

mrz · 24/06/2012 17:36

I think you will find those of us who replied to pooshtun's post were deleted as is MN policy.

mrz · 24/06/2012 17:37

I took the OPS advice and ignored but I won't ignore it when others are bullied.

Feenie · 24/06/2012 17:42

Me neither.

You can't keep going on for days it's not as though thatpost has been repeated.

And yet here you are, going on, days later. Smile

Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit; Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.

redglow · 24/06/2012 17:43

Ok fine but what can u do about it? It's a public forum as much as you can do is report it. Mumsnet have acted so it's over.

mrz · 24/06/2012 17:47

If I agreed with you we'd both be wrong.
