I've just ordered some of the new Comics for Phonics reading scheme books

I hope they will be hit especially with some of my boys

Hello there, mrz. You were saying something earlier about all spelling being phonic. Well that's alright then, because if learned sight spelling is phonic, because all spelling is phonic, then learned sight reading must also be phonic, because it follows from all spelling being phonic that all reading must be phonic, because that too uses words, and all words are phonic, so everything's phonic, so we've all got no problems.

That's great. Personally I reckon all dreaming's phonic.

Blimey learnandsay are you just waiting to pounce on mrz? Bit uncalled for.

mrz · 16/06/2012 20:15

You haven't quite got it learnandsay Hmm

looks good and will give them a feeling of being able to finish a book by themselves! Are there any girly comics? DD would love that

auntevil · 16/06/2012 20:20

There are several ASD lads at school that would absolutely love those books - I wouldn't have any struggles at reading time.
It would be good for many of the reluctant readers generally as they still don't class comics as 'proper' books.

littlelegsmum · 16/06/2012 20:25

My son would find those a lot more interesting that "boring" books mrsz

littlelegsmum · 16/06/2012 20:25

Sorry mrz !!

mrz · 16/06/2012 20:30

Yes there are 44 titles (I notice Miss Polly had a Dolly and Think Pink)

Once again, learnandsay, you clearly don't know what you are talking about. Do you ridicule everything you don't understand - is it a coping strategy?

accountantsrule · 16/06/2012 21:07

ah learnandsay off again hijacking threads with your lack of phonic understanding?! Wink

accountantsrule · 16/06/2012 21:11

These look brilliant. DS2 has some of the DK readers pre-level 1 reading books as they are Star Wars, Superman, Batman etc and seem really good too, they are a bit more basic than these though.

kilmuir · 17/06/2012 04:08

Loony
They look great mrz

mrz · 17/06/2012 07:55

I'll have the full set of 44 books within 10 days according to the rep so will have a better idea of quality but the samples looked appealing.

Those look amazing. Ds would love them. Can anyone buy from these people or do they only sell to schools?

mrz · 17/06/2012 08:17

I'm sure you could order them as an individual but I've just sent a message to Kate who runs the MN learning section for Pearsons to ask if they could be put on MN for parents

I agree that they look amazing, what a great idea. I am especially looking forward to seeing how the boys like them.

A read at home set would be fab.

learnandsay · 17/06/2012 12:05

Folks, you're quite welcome to write here about phonics. But you're not welcome to write about me.

You may feel passionate. But please feel passionate about the subject(s) and not the posters.

accountantsrule · 17/06/2012 12:18

Learnandsay The only reason people have commented about you is that Mrz was sharing some phonics books and for the 2nd time this week you have started talking about why you don't agree with phonics even though neither thread was asking for anyones opinions on phonics. Its not personal!

learnandsay · 17/06/2012 12:32

All the same, better discuss the subjects and not the people. Let's do that in future.

Feenie · 17/06/2012 12:36

Tell you what - you stop popping up on phonics threads posting ridiculous comments which display your huge lack of understanding, and I'll stop telling you that you don't know what you're talking about. Wink

If you're going to post silly things like 'I'm going to ask the school if my dd can opt out of phonics because I think it's daft', then of course people will post about you!

learnandsay · 17/06/2012 12:47

That's precisely how you get into great personal arguments. There are lots of things no one ever posted. No one ever posted things like can I opt out of sport because I think I'm green. We could all spend all day objecting to arguments no one ever posted and then using them as justifications for making personal attacks.

Why don't we just write hey, look I feel entitled to attack you, so, know what, I think I will!!

Just stick to the subjects and leave the people alone. If you've got an argument to make make it. But don't attack the people otherwise things will just get messy and nasty.

Feenie · 17/06/2012 12:51

If you're unhappy about anything posted, you can always report the post, learnandsay.

learnandsay · 17/06/2012 12:58

Well, the phrase that I'm most unhappy about so far is "of course people will post about you!" No they won't.

I'm open to counter arguments but not to personal comments for any reason, no matter how justified the poster feels. If someone can show why a posting is wrong let them say so. That's what a forum is for.

Feenie · 17/06/2012 13:01

Press the button then, learnandsay.

How would you expect people to respond to your opting out of phonics request without mentioning you, exactly? Or your ignorance regarding phonics when you post to poo poo anything about the subject? Confused

learnandsay · 17/06/2012 13:04

I've never posted opt out of phonics. I think you're objecting to something I've posted. But I believe you've forgotten what it was, because it wasn't any of the things mentioned so far in this thread. If you want to object to what I've posted please look it up.
