When do you find out about next year's teacher?

This seems to differ wildly between schools. The one down the road from us has already told their pupils, whereas we wait until the week before we break up. Incidentally, the teachers only find out a few days earlier!

5th July, it's the town's 'transition day' where all pupils meet their new teacher and those moving up schools go to visit their new class at their new school and their parents can visit that evening.

Pinner35 · 15/06/2012 17:59

We found out this week.

MirandaWest · 15/06/2012 18:00

We found out week before half term I think. Then the day when they meet their new teachers is early in July.

imnotmymum · 15/06/2012 18:00

We found out earlier this week.

simpson · 15/06/2012 18:03

The teachers at my DC school do not even know what years they are all teaching yet, they are having a meeting about it next week.

LIZS · 15/06/2012 18:04

dd finds out next week when she goes to an induction at her new school but at her current one it is in the penultimate week of term with teachers knowing about a week beforehand.

Beanbagz · 15/06/2012 18:34

Small class with only one class per year so i know the teachers already. We have a meeting next week to find out what they'll be expecting of DCs.

According to one teacher i was talking to last week Y3 and Y6 (which my two are going into) are the hardest!

Pooka · 15/06/2012 18:39

1st of July, same day as reports I think. They do a "meet the teacher" thing the following week.

caffeinated · 15/06/2012 19:28

Last week of term.

insanityscratching · 15/06/2012 19:43

I choose dd's teacher at her Annual Review in May but without a statement children are told the week before they break up.

Seona1973 · 15/06/2012 21:45

we find out on the 25th June and then school breaks up on 28th June (Scotland)

mankyscotslass · 16/06/2012 09:33

We find out the week before they beak up, we get a slip inside their school reports.

The last day for teachers to resign if they want to stop work in September is 31st May. So heads can't really do much before then.
I haven't been told yet.

shineypenny · 16/06/2012 15:52

Primary school here is on Inset on Monday so the teachers can talk argue about it all day

Posey · 16/06/2012 15:55

The last week of term.

BackforGood · 16/06/2012 16:15

In our LA, all new secondary (current Yr6) pupils go for a 'taster day' on the first Wed in July. Vast majority of Primary schools also make that their 'moving up day' as it fits in pretty sensibly. IME, the pupils only tend to know on that Tuesday.
Oddly though, dd2's school were informed which teachers are going to be in which year groups a few weeks ago, but this is due to all sorts of different arrangements being made this year, which the HT wanted to explain clearly to everyone before some things were picked up on and rumours started flying around. It's quite a big school though, so although they know it's "one of.." they still don't know which teacher it will be.

auntevil · 16/06/2012 16:33

I don't remember seeing specific notification to parents after reception year. The week before end of term, everyone spends the afternoon in their new class, with their new teacher. Hopefully they remember the name. Last newsletter of term, the teachers and the year that they teach is listed, but each year has 2 classes, so if your child doesn't remember Blush
Teachers already know btw. It will totally confuse the parents again as in our school, after a few years, your year group is changed. So realistically, you can get the same teacher more than once throughout primary.

HandMadeTail · 16/06/2012 16:39

DD2 had her induction day for secondary school, yesterday, so we found out about her form tutor then.

We know that DS's teacher is "the new one" but not much else about her. However, strangely, because one of the teachers has a son at the school, and policy is that she shouldn't be his main class teacher, we are fairly certain of who he will have for the two years after that, already!

HandMadeTail · 16/06/2012 16:41

Sorry, forgot about DD1 Blush

Not sure who her form tutor will be, but we will find out in early July.

bigTillyMint · 16/06/2012 16:42

Last week of term at the DC's primary.

On the first day at the DC's secondary!

teacherwith2kids · 16/06/2012 17:59

6th July. Which given that, depending on the teacher assigned, we may be looking for a new school for DD, isn't a whole load of notice....

(Have list of schools with vacancies, have relevant form on standby, need to book school visits for two days I'm not at my school at the beginning of that week so I'm all ready to go if needs be. DS has just had a fantastic education at the same school - shows how a child's experience of a school can depend entirely on the teachers they have, rather than on how good a school is overall.)

Rant over.

HandMadeTail · 16/06/2012 18:03

Teacher, I so agree! I was very happy with all my two DD's teachers, except for one, who, unfortunately, they both had. I was so pleased when DD2 had the same Yr 6 teacher as DD1, as the other teacher is known to be very shouty, and I can imagine her being a gibbering wreck, rather than the happy, well adjusted girl she is.

HandMadeTail · 16/06/2012 18:04

Oh, and good luck with your allocation!
