Yes. Dd1 (yr1) writes very much the same (and she's on g&t list for Literacy). She wrote 'culerfall raindear' yesterday (colourful reindeer). My understanding is that as long as what they're writing makes sense phonetically they are on track at this age.

EcoLady · 21/12/2011 21:21

That looks great for year one :) It's perfectly easy to decode what was written, which is exactly what is hoped for in KS1.

verybusyspider · 21/12/2011 23:25

ds is yr1, that looks very similar to his 'dear farther christmas, ples may I have sum lego. I hav been very good and will leve you a jamy doder on christmas ev' Grin

breadandbutterfly · 22/12/2011 11:10

Aww, how lovely. Doubt my ds in yr 1 could write as well as that.

whatstheetiquette · 22/12/2011 11:12

It's fine. All the kids in my DS's class write like this, some not as well.

MigratingChestnutsOnAnOpenFire · 22/12/2011 12:58

My DD wrote like that in year 1 but at least half of it would have been backwards and/or mirror written Xmas Grin

Iamnotminterested · 22/12/2011 14:42

Most kids would do similar; some better.

EtInTerraPax · 22/12/2011 14:50

Just got my Y1 child to write it. She spelled it all correctly, but she is at the upper end of her year for Literacy.

LynetteScavo · 22/12/2011 14:52

Most kids would do similar; some better, some worse.

EtInTerraPax · 22/12/2011 14:53

She then turned round and said 'i can spell 'budget' too mummy', and did so. Confused
Then she wrote 'colorfull raindear' [sic].

scrappydappydoo · 22/12/2011 17:07

Looks fine to me my dd has just written a list of things to take to MILs for xmas - she wants to put it all in her 'sookais'

headinhands · 22/12/2011 17:12

Having spent some time in a yr1 class I'd say you have nothing to fret about. Some yr1's are still getting to grips with recognisable letter formation let alone phonic awareness to that level.

Justasmallthanks · 22/12/2011 17:37

TheMonster · 22/12/2011 17:40

I'd be pleased if some of my year 10 students produced that!

Iamnotminterested · 22/12/2011 18:59

Ok, anyone's 2 year-old able to spell it correctly? Gifted, obviously.

mrsshears · 22/12/2011 19:05
