I'll paste in the 100 most used English words divided into 59 which are phonically straightword for reading
and the 41 which are tricky in some way.

59 decoble:
a, and, as, at, had, has, that, an, back, can,
in, is, it, if, did, him, his, with, big, little, this, will, first,

get, them, then, well, went, her
not, on, from, off, so, go, no, or, for,
but, much, must, up, just,
they,
been, here, see, came, made, make, I, like,
our, out, about,

new, over, old, their.

41 tricky:
the, he, be, we, me, she,
of, to, was, want, all, call, one, said,
you, by, my, only, come, could, do, down, into, look, now, other, right, some, there, two, when, what, where, which, who, your,
are, have, before, more, were.

In the next 200 most HF words the following 63 are tricky to a bigger or lesser extent:
another, any, many, saw, water, small, laughed,

bear, great, head, ready,

ever, never, every, eyes,

find, friends, giant, I?ll, I?m, key, live, river,

coming, everyone, gone,

most, mother, oh, once, clothes, cold, old, told,

book, food, good, room, school, soon, too, took, door,

  • (depending on accent) after, asked, can?t, fast, last, plants.

I always found diarrhoea quite a tricky word ... masha

Every time an OP asks for the most used English words, and I happen to see the request, I will paste them in, unless someone else does so first.

I should think most mothers only look at these boards for a few weeks, before new ones come along. So even my lists are the same old to u, as everything u say is to me, they are not so for many others.

Mashabell · 23/11/2011 10:12

even if my lists

ASuitableGirl · 23/11/2011 10:14

Mashabell, why do you use "u" instead of you?

And I agree with mrz that diarrhoea is a very tricky word :)

Mashabell · 23/11/2011 10:39

I use u for you because it's shorter and just as clear as I. No different to using MN for Mumsnet.

ASuitableGirl · 23/11/2011 11:07

I suppose not but for whatever reason it always makes me think of textspeak and so makes whatever you are saying feel less plausible somehow. I realise that is my own problem though.
