Oh so why didnt you just say that. I have got the jolly phonics books ort. I was just wondering why do private schools still teach by words 1st using the ginn 360 books and then they do phonics the children still begin to read??

mrz · 20/11/2011 17:33

Are you speaking for all private schools?

hocuspontas · 20/11/2011 17:34

I thought the phonics 'expert' was mashabell. Or am I doubly confused about the biscuits and wine Grin

Kardashianw · 20/11/2011 17:34

No just one in particular.

masha and phonics expert in the same sentence ! I must stop drinking virtual wine Shock

schnitzelvoncrumm · 20/11/2011 17:52

my children's state school starts them off with ginn 360. They give out little cards with all the level one words in too...

Fortunately, I use reading chest so that they have access to phonics-based reading material in the early days. The kids' teacher has commented that she can't understand how both of my children became readers so quickly.

hocuspontas I have dribbled tea out of my nose onto my keyboard at your last comment

mnistooaddictive · 20/11/2011 17:53

Mrz is the acknowledged mn expert on reading and writing. High frequency words are old school. I used them with dd1 as I wanted to see his much she knew.

mrz · 20/11/2011 17:55

No I'm not an expert

Feenie · 20/11/2011 17:55

Masha - phonics expert!

Grin Grin Grin

FFSEnid · 20/11/2011 17:57

I dutifully make dcs practice their HFW which are sent home every week? Am I wasting my their time? Its more spelling than reading.

hocuspontas · 20/11/2011 18:00

I was being ironic about the expert! I thought people were confusing maisieD with mashabell. Now I'm worried that my irony isn't up to the mark...

mrz · 20/11/2011 18:01

You do realise she will now include it in her CV hocuspontas!

PosiesOfPoinsettia · 20/11/2011 18:02

Christ, the only times I visit these boards and it's worse than AIBU.

mrz · 20/11/2011 18:04

if you visited more often you would understand the in joke Grin

hocuspontas · 20/11/2011 18:08

Ha! Perhaps I should ask for that post to be deleted! I don't want to be responsible for chaos and illiteracy in KS1...

mrz · 20/11/2011 18:11

don't under estimate your influence!
you could be responsible for the whole of the English speaking world!

PosiesOfPoinsettia · 20/11/2011 18:20
