Hungry, hungry, I am hungry...

Do schools still use this? I remember it from school and when I sing it in work like you do no one knows it and thinks I'm crazy which I am but thats besides the point :)

Hungry, hungry I am hungry
Table, table here I come
I could eat a goose-moose burger
Fifteen pickles and a purple plum

I could eat three bowls of goulash
Half a pound of wuzzled wheat
I could eat a peck of poobers
Then I'd really get to work and eat

Oysters, noodles, strawberry stroodles
French fries, fish hash, one red beet
Lamb chops, wham chops
Huckleberry mish mash
Oh, the things that I could eat

Doughnuts, dump-a-lings
Blueberry bump-a-lings
Chocolate mush-mash, super sweet
Clam stew, ham stew,
Water
melon wush wush
Oh, the stuff that I could eat

Deep dish rhubarb, upside-down cake
I could eat a frittered flum
Hungry, hungry, I am starving
Table, table, here I come

We couldn't afford more verses where I grew up...Grin.

lovecheese · 16/06/2011 21:23

OK, do you remember one that went:

Oh Grenali, my pretty one, pray tell me where's your home?
My home it is in Switzerland, 'tis made of wood and stone!
My home it is in Switzerland, 'tis made of wood and stone!

Oh Grenali, my pretty one,... can't recall any more. Used to sing that in junior 5, sorry year 6, every Friday afternoon. Grin

Ours was based on names:

There was Gwen, Gwen, trying to find a pen in the stores in the stores..
There was mike, mike, trying to ride a bike...
There was Fred, Fred, trying to build a shed...

I've done both of these (Hungry, hungry and There were rats) in my church school...and not too long ago. The kids love the tunes (I believe they are both in apuski dusky) and also liked making up their own verses to sing too.

Hi,

I know this is a really old thread but I stumbled across it whilst I was showing attempting to show this song to a friend.
I felt I should enlighten you.
The song is called "The Super Supper March" and is indeed by Dr. Zeuss. There's a rather crazy video of someone acting out the song available ) which will enlighten you to the melody. Although many schools might have slowed it down a bit; I know that was certainly the case in my school.

Enjoy!

CinnamonPretzel · 19/03/2012 21:31

Thanks millymoo :)

Hey yeeeessss! I did, that's why I found this old post so I could sing it to my kids! Lol

PS I was born in 1977 and went to school in fulham, we also sang "the ink is black" and "cumbayah my lord" lol

OfstedAintEverything · 20/12/2016 20:23

I think It was thirteen pickles....
Earworm!!!

There were several of those songbooks, including "The Jolly Herring". Great stuff!...

GlitterGlue · 20/12/2016 20:35

I remember:

Build a bonfire, build a bonfire
Put the teachers on the top
Put the headmaster in the middle
And burn the flipping lot

We were horrible children.

ImNotChangingMyUsernameAgain · 21/12/2016 06:28

DD's class sang it for their class assembly in Reception. The theme was the hungry caterpillar.

Nidhanasir · 22/07/2017 22:43

OMG!!! We used to sing this song in primary school in Birmingham (UK) around 1994/5 the music teacher would reflect the words on the wall for the whole school to sing!!! Oh the memories!!! 😊
