Hi

DS is in yr1 and has in the past done football although he did not want to continue with it.

He is down to start beavers in sept which he is excited about.

I just think maybe he should be doing something else iyswim.

Just wondering what/how many activities a wk other yr1 kids do Smile

TIA.

street dance (at school), sewing (at school), swimming and ballet

supersewer · 20/03/2011 20:58

beavers and dancing after school, skiing on the weekend

Sinkingfeeling · 20/03/2011 21:00

My Y1 daughter does Beavers, swimming and an after-school music group.

bodiddly · 20/03/2011 21:01

My ds doesn't do any. He has his name down for Beavers and is hopefully starting after Easter. I don't know how people find the time for so many activities. Ds has occasional trips to the park and play dates and does homework every day. I know some dcs in year 1 that do 3 activities a week - I know my ds would be exhausted if I had to fit that in with homework etc.

nancy75 · 20/03/2011 21:01

swimming, dd did ballet for a while but found it boring.
I work for somewhere that provides an after school activity - some kids do something every night, some only do once a week, personally at age 5/6 two is probably the most I would sign my child up for

thinkingkindly · 20/03/2011 21:02

In year one, we just did ballet (have a dd who is very young in her year group). In year two, we do ballet, tap, art (one term only) and swimming. It is too much but will be dropping art after easter.

Wheelybug · 20/03/2011 21:07

Ballet
Dance club (after school)
Swimming (saturdays)

DD would do more - she always wants to know what we are doing after school and if no activity/play date is not happy. Although I think the above is enough, with playdates on top.

am going to find out about trampolining as I think he would love that Smile

He is Aug born so the youngest in the yr so don't want to overload him iyswim...

Chess after school Tuesdays
Tennis Thursday
Football Sunday

also violin at school on Thursday mornings, so not really after school.

calaminecovered · 20/03/2011 21:32

Tennis, swimming, beavers fooball. DS is full of beans and needs the activity!

calaminecovered · 20/03/2011 21:32

football!

TeamLemon · 20/03/2011 21:36

Film Club straight after school one day a week.
Tae Kwan Do 5.51-6.30 once a week.

Lindax · 20/03/2011 21:49

football x 2, karate x 1, swimming x 2

2pinkmonkeys · 21/03/2011 11:51

dd does ballet and fun church(at school), she will be starting either another dance class or piano lessons after easter.

Elibean · 21/03/2011 13:27

In Y1, dd did gardening club (at school), swimming and jazz dance.

She does swimming and piano now in Y2, and its enough - with homework, and time for play with sibling and friends. Some of her friends do much more, but dd would hate that - I do think some of it depends on the child and what their preferences are!

vintageteacups · 21/03/2011 13:39

My yr 1 ds isn't allowed to do after school clubs at this primary school. Clubs don't start until Yr 3 which is a bit Hmm.

He and his sister go swimming on a Monday though.

LawrieMarlow · 21/03/2011 13:44

I have one in reception and one in year 2. Reception does dancing and Rainbows. Year 2 does music band (club at school) and Beavers.

magdalene · 21/03/2011 14:02

No clubs at all!

emy72 · 21/03/2011 14:07

It depends on the child.

DS1 in Reception and only does musical theatre on a Saturday and 15 minutes of Piano lesson on a thu.

DD1 in Y1 does:

  • Rainbows, Ballet, Tap & Modern, Musical Theatre, Piano, film club (at school), cookery (at school).

She also does riding in the summer/spring.

She would love to do swimming but I don't have the stamina/time to take her to that AS WELL. We do swimming in the summer as she spends most of her summer holidays in Italy at the beach.

So my DD1 is unstoppable, but my DS1 struggles with the two things he does and if he was up to him probably wouldn't do them!!!

PanicMode · 21/03/2011 14:19

Tennis, swimming, beavers and riding....it's too much really I think - but will swap one of them for music next year.

meditrina · 21/03/2011 14:28

All DCs swam in reception. DSes didn't do anything else. DD did ballet.

We added football (boys), gymnastics (girl) martial arts and piano (everyone) from year 1 onwards.

myredcardigan · 21/03/2011 14:39

Similar to emy72 even though my DS is older. He is Y2 and DD1 is in Reception. He does swimming and football now outside school whereas DD1 does, swimming, gymnastics, ballet, tap and is about to start Rainbows. DS is 7 and could not cope with any more as is fairly exhausted after school. DD1 would fit in another 2 or 3 activities if we let her. DD2 is only 3 but already doesn't seem like she'll want to do very much that takes any effort! Grin

They are all so different so I think you need to look at the child in question and see firstly if they want to do something and secondly, whether they have the energy.

MADABOUTTHEBOY2000 · 21/03/2011 18:05

when hes 8 depends where you live he could donavy training corp they do all sorts of fun and games sports and educationsl stuff and obviously water borne sports like sailing ,kayaking, rafting. we ried football but the clubs hardly let you play spend more time on the bench but the FA do a thing called mini soccer to get the skills going, tai kwon do is graeat and my DS does a trampoline club really wears him out, we go swimming regular anyway so didnt do a swim club my eldest has electric guitar lessons but at that ahe she did dance and piano, now drama club which she loves and ice skating lessons (grr bloomin programme ) lol

MADABOUTTHEBOY2000 · 21/03/2011 18:06

nowwearefour · 21/03/2011 18:08

my yr1 dd1 does swimming, rainbows and tennis. all after school. all are mixing with local kids from other schools and generally fun. she loves them all. dd2 desperate to do all of them (we restrict her to 2 activities as she is only 3).
