spellings, reading and book task weekly
maths worksheet every now & again

Too much imho

cece · 12/02/2011 21:18

spellings 6 words per week
reading

very occasional research/find out about type thing...

That is plenty!

BachAtTheMoon · 12/02/2011 21:24

DS1 gets a homework every fortnight.

English (this week draw a house made of food and Label)

Maths (draw and colour basic fractions)

Phonics (100 high frequency word. Learn to read and spell. This section has been the same since beginning of term)

Science (explore how push and pull forces are used about the house)

Topic (How do you celebrate, wedding birthday etc)

Other (draw or write something)

The homework is not obligatory but house-points are awarded for any that is completed.

onimolap · 12/02/2011 21:25

Daily reading, 10 spelling words a week, one maths sheet a week.

ilovemyhens · 12/02/2011 21:26

About two reading books, some spellings and a bit of simple maths.

It's about the right amount. His previous school that we removed him from did absolutely nothing and he was falling behind as a result. He's now up to speed and actually enjoys his homework Grin

Butkin · 12/02/2011 21:32

Exactly the same as onimolap.

mumcanIaskaquestion · 12/02/2011 21:36

Daily reading, 10 spelling to learn. On a Friday a worksheet on a random topic.

DD1 also brings home additional maths worksheets 'for fun'.

Portofino · 12/02/2011 21:40

We're in Belgium, but dd generally gets a page of sums or writing 3 nights a week, plus has to revise that week's words for a writing test on Friday. No reading books are sent home but we are supposed to read with her every night. We normally do it in English. I guess we will need to switch to French, or alternate pretty soon though.

geraldinetheluckygoat · 12/02/2011 21:41

reading book - two or three sometimes more a week.
Spellings, eight words that have to be written out daily.
That's it.

Vicky2011 · 12/02/2011 21:41

Daily reading, one maths and one English sheet and 10 - 12 spellings a week

I find this fine - its the occasional random projects which usually involve a degree of art / craft ability which completely throw both him and me into a spin

WorzselMummage · 12/02/2011 21:41

Do they all get marked on time?

My dd used to get literacy and numeracy a week and tricky words and books but they dropped it down to fortnightly (because some pupils were struggling
apparently) much to my dd's disgust but they don't seem to be bothered marking it and some weeks we've not even been given the worksheets.

I'm kind of getting the feeling they just can't be arsed. It's a bit demoralising for dd if she puts a lot in to it and it's not been marked 3 weeks later.

Just wondering what was normal.

oh yes they come back marked the following day. I know DS would find it very demoralising if he didn't see it being marked and given praise points

mumcanIaskaquestion · 12/02/2011 21:47

Yes homework sheets are marked each week, which are kept in her folder for us to look back at when we want.

Spelling test every monday, and her reading book is read at least once a week at school and changed if not every time then every other time.

cluelessnchaos · 12/02/2011 21:49

Mine gets heap, every week he has

2 reading books
Page of about ten words to write out twice and make a sentence
2 pages of numeracy
1 page of a language task
1 other task like a quiz of general knowledge or one week was design a gingerbread house

We always struggle to find the time to do it all

DreamTeamGirl · 12/02/2011 21:49

Y1 here and just reading books.

Y1 (dd2)- just a reading book
Y2 - (from dd1) being there they get a page of questions (either numeracy or literacy)loosely based on sats papers and a reading book

HeavenForfend · 13/02/2011 18:29

Ours (y1 and y2) get reading books plus a list of 'extras' relating to the themes they are working on, from which they can pick and choose.

The current theme is Space, so they both want to do all of it (building rockets, googling animals in space, making little booklets about the solar system etc.). I like this approach and it's popular with children & parents alike.

MollieO · 13/02/2011 18:37

Five reading books per week
10 spellings to learn for weekly test
Spelling corrections - from test and dictation where new words are introduced.
One maths worksheet (sometimes 2).
One English worksheet.

All easy and all except reading are completely pointless. I used to think a bit of homework was a good thing but I have revised my opinion.

Runoutofideas · 13/02/2011 20:57

Yr 1 - generally just reading books. Very occasionally she gets an optional extra piece. The last one was "What is your favourite story? Write a sentence about it and draw a picture to illustrate it". This has been the only thing since Christmas and I am quite happy about that.

emy72 · 13/02/2011 21:29

Y1 here too - 2 books a week and a writing diary to complete weekly. No spelling tests here either!!!

dontdillydally · 13/02/2011 21:56

gosh mine gets a sheet every friday with 6 spellings - never see it after its returned though.

Has reading books in his book bag and in enrolement we were asked we read with them at least once a week.

no maths though which I think DS would like

Elsjas · 13/02/2011 23:48

Year one - 14 spellings, one maths sheet and one English sheet per week and 20 mins of reading per day.

snice · 13/02/2011 23:51

8 or 9 spellings to learn (for a weekly test), each of which has to be written in a sentence.

1 other piece which may be maths sheet or science 'finding out' homework

ThistleWhistle · 13/02/2011 23:52

Y2 - one lot of homework a week, which should take 15 mins to do. Usually alternates between her reading journal and maths/project related homework. She can bring reading books home each night but hardly ever does.
