Yesterday in DD's bookbag I found a note which said it had been noted that Laura's DD was absent on 9th Sept afternoon! This has been noted as an unauthorised absence, please could you send a letter to DD's teacher to explain her absence................er yes I can. She was taken I'll during the school day and the school called me to take her home Hmm

Could it be, Laura, that said note has been languishing in your DDs drawer for weeks? DD1 has nearly missed extension days and has missed deadline's for clubs because of this.

Lotkinsgonecurly · 23/11/2010 19:13

Love it, that's just the sort of thing ds's school do!

AnnieLobeseder · 23/11/2010 19:17

Write back just as you said it to us.

Dear DDs School

Small Norder was off school on the afternoon in question as she was ill. I didn't think a note to explain her absence was necessary since you called me to pick her up and were aware that she would be off for at least the rest of the day.

Love and Kisses
Laura

Haha

nameymcnamechange · 23/11/2010 19:19

She was taken I'll?

MummyMyfanwy · 23/11/2010 19:19

I love that reply Annie! Please send that reply and report back with how they respond!

PointlessNastiness · 23/11/2010 19:21

They obv had forgotten that. Mo reason to be snotty though

whomovedmychocolate · 23/11/2010 19:21

Add a line to the tune of : 'you administrators aren't allowed to teach at all are you ' Wink

StealthPolarBear · 23/11/2010 19:22

:)

EnnisDelMar · 23/11/2010 19:24

Oh I send them notes to explain to me why a certain day orf was recorded as unauthorised absence...which they do, but with bitter resentment in their eyes.

LauraNorder · 23/11/2010 19:27

Sorry about the I'll - predictive test on the iPad! You knew what I meant though?

Who's being snotty? I think it's funny Grin

It's snotty and rude

ItalianLady · 23/11/2010 19:31

Just reply that your DD was taken ill during the school day and was taken home for the rest of the day. The person sending the letter might not have known this and the school need something in writing. At our school you have to phone in that the child will be off and then send a note in when they go back.

Caz10 · 23/11/2010 19:33

It's just an admin thing, they know why she was off but it needs to be in writing from you, school policy!

LauraNorder · 23/11/2010 19:35

Ah do you mean Annie's reply?

I meant I think the original note is funny! I have no intention of being rude although I don't think Annie's reply is snotty or rude as I did think that they would have recorded her absence as they sent her home. I might leave out the love and kisses bit Smile

Sounds like they don't keep very good records at the school. What if there had been a fire, would someone have gone in looking for your DD? Surely if they asked you to take her home because she was ill they should note their records accordingly. At my DS's old school, there was a record book at reception and any child coming or going during the school day signed in or out.

gorionine · 24/11/2010 17:40

Same happened to me a few years ago. For religious reasons Ds was not doing the nativity. All the other years he had stayed in school and done other things. On this particular year, the teacher said to me after school "There is no need to send Ds to school tomorrow as we are doing on show in the morning and one in the afternoon he will get bored." so I did not send him and got a letter very similar to yours. At no point she said "maybe you should book the day off, she clearly said d not send himConfused

puch · 24/11/2010 18:23

our school work by sessions ie morning session and afternoon sessions for registration so if the school sends my child home (happens a lot) before lunch we still have to write a note for as he would missed afternoon registration even though the school has sent him home. Maybe your school works on this idea as well

mloo · 24/11/2010 18:28

I now have pre-printed form letters:
"Mloo-Surname is off school today, 201, due to .

Signed _ (Mloo)

Then I just fill in the blanks.

I Fing hate this modern penchant for laying papertrails everywhere. I an convinced that it achieves very little.

JJ6 · 25/11/2010 01:25

Maybe you could all stop being so anal. This is likely to be a computer/data issue that seems to have been resolved - chill

ChippingIn · 25/11/2010 02:17

Maybe the school administration should stop being so 'anal'? They sent the child home, they should be able to do the paperwork for it - not claim it was an unauthorised absence. Idiots.

Goblinchild · 25/11/2010 06:40

DD had an ongoing problem with her 6th form college. Her attendance was around 85% because whenever she was out on a field trip, or doing something drama-related for the day, the computer said she wasn't in college and marked her AWOL. Did it when she was taking an exam too.Hmm
Communication problem, no biggie.

Smithagain · 25/11/2010 14:52

Confused it has never occurred to me that it might be necessary to write a note when my child has been sent home Confused. Surely they would have to record it in the register straight away, so that they have an accurate record of who is in the building.

Lydwatt · 25/11/2010 19:43

This does strike as a big fuss over nothing. Mistakes are made. Let them know what happened and move on...no biggie.

Caz10 · 25/11/2010 21:22

It will have been on the system, but something in writing from the family is still required!
