Help calm me down, really need info re Tiger Teams pe group-what exactly is it for?

I've only just found out by accident that my dd is being taken out of class once a week for Tiger Team PE.

I've been given no information what so ever and have not even been asked for consent (written or verbal) so I'm not best pleased.

Nobody seems to know exactly what it's for or who is doing it. It seems to be an SEN group.

My dd is very active, she's only 5 and has been riding her bike without stabilisers since 4,can ride 4 miles in a stretch, lives on her scooter, swims etc. She's bright and is doing very well but I'm not particularly keen on her missing lit/numeracy if she doesn't need to.

She has no balance problems,is very active, fit and slim so what on earth is it for?

All I've been told is it's for kids who don't like PE Hmm.

I've requested the organiser ring me-so far they haven't.

Personally I don't feel I should be left to surf the net(can find nothing) to find out why my dd is being taken out of class. So before I blow my stack on Monday can anybody shed any light?

She was in rec particularly in PE( had been known to freeze on a couple of occasions, don't know why),it's improved amazingly since she went into year 1.

She's not the shyest by any means, puts her hand up now, uses a bigger voice etc.

I think it varies.

I just want to know exactly what it's for,can find no website.

Surely I should have been asked for permission and been given in introductory letter?

If it's serious enough to be taken out of classes I want to know exactly what the problem is and what's going on in the sessions.

Thanks btw Grin

Nope, you really don't need to be asked permission or given a letter. It is up to the school how they organise provision for your child during the hours that they are in school. Yes out of concideration they probably should have let you know but they don't have to.

MilaMae · 17/10/2010 16:20

I'm pretty sure she's definitely not G&T at PE. Grin

She loves the outdoors, her bike and scooter etc but isn't keen on PE,self conscious I think.

But if my dd has such a problem/or not that an outside agency is involved and she misses 1/2 an hour of lessons a week I feel I should be asked.

As it is when I find out more I'll be requesting she is pulled out of the group if I feel she doesn't need it. Sorry but PE comes a long way down the priority scale when she gets stacks of exercise as it is.

Her teacher is bemused too.

She's the only one in her class as far as I know,it has kids of all ages in.

Obviously if they think she really needs it I wouldn't but I'm still none the wiser as to what it is and why she's in it.

Having said that if it's for gross motor skills I'm sorry but she really has no problems in that area and I'd rather somebody else who needed it had the place.

It's odd none of you(teachers I'm presuming)know what it's for either.

You'd have thought parents would have been sent an info letter.

I've tried Googling every Tiger pe combination but zilch,do you know any good websites that might shed some light?

Tiger Team PE, sounds like something the school have called it rather than an actual name of a company that are coming in. As for motor skills things, it could be for lots of reasons e.g. pencil holding. There was a scheme of work produced called 'Right Dance' a few years ago which was for all children in ks1 and was really good at developing these skills. It could be that she is doing a variation of this.

MilaMae · 17/10/2010 16:54

It's def an outside agency(has a logo)and is a nationwide initiative. This is partly the reason why the leader hasn't spoken to me, only comes in once a week.

That's all I've been told.

All her motor skills are fine.

Do you see why I'm getting a tad irrate? Smile

They have exercises to do at home.

I can understand your frustration.
Wether your daughter does or doesn't need any help is, to me, not the issue.
The issue for me would be not being told.
I would be very cross if i wasn't told about a group activity involving an outside agency for my dd at school.
I would expect to be told but i would have no problem with mine missing half an hour of another lesson.

MilaMae · 17/10/2010 17:02

I do for PE.

If it was any other area of the curriculum I wouldn't mind but PE????

She is soooooo active.

It's odd,if it's a nationwide initiative why is nobody on here none the wiser either?

Unlike many people here I see why yu are irate and concerned...if my DD was deemed to need help in something then OF COURSE the parent needs to be informed! How else would they assist or come up with their own strategies? Ridiculous and also a little worrying....no teacher has the right to implement help without letting the parent know! Even if it IS for the childs benefit.

ForMashGetSmash · 17/10/2010 17:13

Found this which may give an iea of where they got the idea for the title of the team

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiger_team

overmydeadbody · 17/10/2010 17:27

Even if she is taken out of class for it, it will be in the afternoon, and literacy and numeracy are done in the morning. I doubt she's missing anything other than normal PE lessons.

Sometimes with these groups they need a certain amount of 'normal able' children as well as the children the group is aimed at helping.

MilaMae · 17/10/2010 17:31

It's the mornings,I asked.
