Unaccountably cross at thought of Year 2 SATS

DS has just started Y2 and there is a meeting next week about SATS.
I knew there were/ are SATS in Y2 and Y6, so surprised at myself for feeling so grumpy about it...

He is doing OK at school academically, his Y1 report said he was 2a for numeracy and 2b for literacy (DS won't 'do' cursive script so marked down from a 2a). He is quite reticent with his peers and I worry more about his social and emotional development than his academic progress...

I guess I am not really sure what the point of this assessment is? Is it just a way for schools to measure achievement internally, ie comparing Y6 and Y2 results? Do these results 'count' for anything?

They are so little, I feel cross at his lovely lovely SE London state primary class being judged and found wanting.... Angry

Can other MNetters put this in perspective for me :o) Thank you...

Sorry, Indigobell, my comment was to Loudlass - it's a different story at KS1, since the school create the table of results. I am gobsmacked that they would dare to omit results though, you should challenge it!

They would also have had to have sent a TA result for your ds to the LEA though, so that data is presumably correct? All value added data is created centrally from that, so if they have said your ds achieved level 2, then they will have to ensure he achieves at least level 4 in Y6 or their value added score will be down. So to give erroneous TAs to the LEA aswell would be shooting themselves in the foot, ifyswim.

Feenie - they have sent the correct data to the LEA. It is just in the stats they sent home to the parents they lied. I know it is unbelievable - but still a true story I'm afraid.

We have since moved school so I won't bother to challenge it. It wouldn't help DD or me.

Grin and a big wave back at Bruffin. Wells Park looking particularly beautiful at the moment!

I haven't seen it for years SH. I had my wedding photos taken in Wells Park under the big weeping willow over the pond/lake, it was always so lovely there.
