Periods in primary school

My daughter has started her period during this lockdown. She is in Year 6, she's 10, 11 in May. I know after 8 is deemed "normal" but she still seems so young.

We're both very thankful she has started whilst at home and hopefully the first couple will be before schools reopen.

She was fully prepared btw. We've had lots of chats, had a stock of supplies ready and she's had some bits in her school bag for a while. She came and told me straight away.

What's upset her is the fear of being the only one at school. Obviously neither of us know for sure and it's certainly not our business but just how common is it really during primary? FWIW I wasn't much older, 11.5, but in secondary.

She's always tracked the 98th centile for height since birth. She's currently 5'1. Is she likely to continue this trajectory and reach a red book predicted height of 5'9 (im 5'4, her dad 5'11). Or now she's started her period will her growth tail off?

Thank you.

There are usually several girls in year 6 (10-11) who will have periods
There are less in year 5 (9-10)
Occasionally a year 4 child ( 8-9).
In each class there is always a range of different development types. There is no pattern and some develop quickly and some slowly. My daughter's are very tall but this did not mean they were more physically developed that any other girl.

Girls generally stop growing about two years after starting their periods, my daughter pretty much stopped within a year - she was 11 and 5' 6.5" (I'm 5' 11") and is still wearing the same size clothes at 15. So I expect your daughter to grow a bit but doubt she will get to 5'9.
As for other kids- the youngest in my daughter's year was 9, and about half the girls had it when my daughter started at 11.

I got my period when I was 13 and 5ft 5 and stopped growing at 18, when I reached 6ft.

My yr6 dd is 5ft2, has small breasts but I’m thinking/hoping that periods will wait until she leaves primary, she’s not moody or spotty yet. It’s much easier in secondary to take your bag into the loo. The toilets in primary are in the classroom and it would be very obvious if she went to her locker/bag first, she’s so shy, she would be mortified.

@Passthecake30 toilets in the classroom?? I'm a primary school teacher and never heard of that before! My dd has now had three cycles, used modibodi pants and been totally fine with them.

@dippyegg32 yes, there are 2 toilets in each classroom, in both the infants and the juniors. Some classrooms are in an L shape (so the toilets at the bottom of the L), some have a fake wall going across part way. I didn’t realise it was so wierd!
