10 year old and leg hair

My DD is 10, soon to be 11, so going into high school in September.
Last summer she got really upset about the hairs on her legs, she is very hairy, although they aren't really dark.
I wondered if everyone else has come across this and what you have done?
I don't really want to start shaving it, I just think once you start that's it, no going back, always prickly/dark hairs.
I've bought the Philips lumea, but now I'm not sure if she is a contender for this with her leg hairs being lightish.
Any advice appreciated.

My 11 yr old has just started shaving her legs- her hair is fair and stuck out through black opaque school tights. I would let her shave if it bothers her.

Lumea says not for children under 18 years
My dd just shaves hers. She likes the razors with inbuilt soap bars

Lumea is suitable for children, it's just what they have to put on there, that's it's not suitable for young children.
dementedpixie I really didn't expect a comment like that, I was after advice not criticism!
She doesn't want to shave, that's why I'm asking for advice.

At what age can I use Philips Lumea?

Lumea does state clearly that it isn’t suitable for under 18. What about waxing? Shaving is the easiest option though.

I started shaving my legs and armpits at her age, am 70 now and no problems.

I can state with confidence that the last 4 weeks have proved to me that the hairs on shaved legs do not grow back any thicker or stubblier. 
They just feel it for the first week . Give her some power over her own body and let her choose

My Dd is the same age and has really hairy legs. I am going to buy and put away a lady shave for her for when they start to bother her. I suspect the girls at secondary may be more ruthless with their comments than the group she has grown up with at primary!

Lady shaves are pretty rubbish tbh. Definitely a smoother shave with a razor. Most have guards on them to minimise cutting and some have soap bars attached. Dd and I like the Gillette venus olia one

Yes I have asked Philips, they said that it is what they have to put on it, obviously it has to be used with care, it's not a torture device!
Also if you Google this type of hair removal there is no lower age limit as long as it is done with care.
My gosh I really didn't expect to get this kind of slatting of you all! I take it we are all Mum's on here and have our child's best interests at heart?
She doesn't want to shave as she is worried about doing it with a blade etc, even though I have said I will do it for her.

You need to remove hair by shaving/waxing, etc before using it too

Veet, or wax (ouch!). I started secondary with very dark hairy legs and was teased ruthlessly. My mum wouldn’t let me shave as she didn’t want me to go through the whole stubble thing. So I just stole an old school bic disposable and cut my legs to ribbons shaving them. She let me after that but the whole experience was quite traumatic!
Just support her to remove the hair however she chooses. X

I know you do, but if there is a chance that it leaves her hair free for longer then she is happy to go with that.

Readysetcake thanks. She doesn't know what she wants! I did under her arms with Veet cream the other day, but I'm not sure how suitable that is for legs

I remember my mum getting me hair removal cream because she didn't want me to use a razor, thought I would cut myself.

I used the veet bladeless razor kit before starting secondary school until I got the hang of shaving properly and it worked great for me
