Does your 4.5yr old preschooler know all the numbers up to 100??

This is really hard to word with it sounding like I'm boasting.....

DS3 he came home from nursery with a sticker/badge saying "I know all the numbers....".

I realised a while ago that he knew them but can't remeber if ds1 and 2 knew them at this age too. He can tell any number, even if I ask him to flip it around he'll know it (eg, 14 is 41 backwards).

His nursery think its really amazing but because he's so quick with it it seems kind of normal IYSWIM.

Is he going to be a mathmatical genius or is his nursery being abit OTT.

BTW I'd love to take full credit for it but he's learnt the number by playing against his big brothers on the on the Wii. The highest score is important when you're 4,6 and 9 yrs old

DS1 is in reception and he knows those numbers. He is just 5.

DS is 4.5 and knows them all. I don't think he's particularly advanced, but he is interested in numbers. I thought it was normal that they would know them by now.

he does know a few numbers that start in the hundreds and thousands and he does ask what number xxx is alot....

I think teh nursery might be being a little to excitable!!

no. I think dd1 (4.3) can do up to the thirties then it all gets a bit tricky. She does her 'big' numbers like Lola

my just 5 year old (not starting school until August because we're in Scotland) can do up to 39.

4.4 year old dd - can usually do up to about twenty. Her grasp otherwise of numbers and value of money etc is quite amusing but fairly average for her age I think. Everything in her play shop costs "sixty quid"!

My 4.5 has a go at numbers up to 100 but misses some out and needs help going over to the next set of 10 eg. from going to 79 to 80

cece - same with my DS, I think there's a difference with being able to recognise the numbers (he could do numbers up to 100) and count consecutively (he can do until 20 confidently, but it's a bit hit and miss with the change overs between 79 and 80 etc. although from 99 to 100 is a well-recognised one)

Well done to your DS3. He sounds as if he's got a good sense of how numbers work.

I know that when DS2 started Reception his teacher was impressed that he knew numbers beyond 100, and they were actively teaching numbers up to 100 to the 'top' maths group later in the year. So I don't think it's that usual. But I don't think it's that unusual either - I don't think he was the only one in the class, IYSWIM.

I remember DS2, before he was 4, telling me as we were walking to pick up DS1 that 22 came after 11. When I contradicted him (because he had been counting accurately for at least 2 years then), he laughed and said, "Yes, and then it's 33, then 44, then 55.." - all the way up to 99.

He can count all the wya up too 100 aswell, except alot of the time he misses out 17, 27,37,47,57, etc etc.

I can never tell if he's dong it in purpose or not though because if I say you've missed 27/37/etc put he just giggles in the "ha ha tricked you" kind of way.

ds3 is nearly 4 & can count to 100, but he cant read numbers above 11.

DD1 knew all numbers to 100 when she was 4.5, but she was in Reception, not nursery.

DD didn't but a couple of her nursery age friends did by that age - both little boys. One knew them very early. Him and DD are the same maths-wise now, aged 6.

Ah wipe that - was thinking when DD was a preschooler, rather than the age. DD started school at 4y5m and yes, she could at that point. She couldn't at just turned 4y as a preschooler. However her two little friends did know as preschoolers.

DS is 3 and can count up to 100. ANd back down again backwards. He has a very good memory (and I have had to sing 75 Monkeys Jumping On The Bed all the way through with him)...

DS is 4.5 and can count up to 100, but needs assistance on some of the changeovers. He is in quite a numbers mood at the moment.

ds (3.11) has known and recognised numbers up to 100 for about a year now, and can do simple sums. he completely taught himself. i don't think it's that unusual tho

god knows where he gets that from tho, dh and i are hopeless with maths

According to my parents I could count to 100 when I was 2

My 2.4 year old can count to 4

DD1 couldn't.

DS1 could at 4 (started school at 4.3yrs). He could also tell the time. He plays a lot of Top Trumps which like your Wii, is good for high numbers.

DD2 is only 3 and can count up to 20 and back and do the count & point thing.

Ds is 4 (just) and can count up to 200+ - I got bored with the game before he couldn't go on IYSWIM . He can recognise numbers as well, and do addition/subtraction up to 20 and very simple multiplication (3 lots of 2 sort of thing). His pre-school also seem to think it's a big thing, but tbh I don't think it is - it's more that he's had an opportunity to learn (I often do number questions with dd(6) on car journeys/walks that that he's a complete genius. I do remember that dd was not as good at this age, and think it will be useful in reception - if he find the number stuff easy it gives him more time to concentrate on his really rather bad pen control!

ds can't count much beyond 20

otoh he can reliably add and subtract them all
