Generally, I am in the "thinking" phase - what are my routes away from trouble if needed? What are the issues most likely to happen where I am because of escalation? How do I overcome those?
And the actual prepping part - I have never actually put together a bug out bag, despite lots of thinking of what I ought to include. Contents are different now for various reasons but I need to put together a reasonable, and reasonably invisible, bag - as I am in a European city that is not front line but higher chance of things happening than "back home".
So I am planning my alternative routes home, or to other safe places. I am planning what I'd need to do if staying locally here (which I may need to for work reasons). I am gathering copies of important paperwork, spare meds and some emergency supplies/clothes to put in a bag, and a plan to shop for the bag this or next weekend.
I have my electric bike all set and charged. I know the main train routes I'd likely use if flights weren't an option (including links to ferries "home"). I should have a car in the next few weeks which would help enormously in that context.
But I am also prepping for inflation and scarcity coming. Savings, building non-perishables that I use anyway, having alternatives for light and extra blankets (heating is a communal gas boiler for my block, and I am not allowed naked flames so I have a lot of blankets (and hot water bottles which I can fill if I still have electricity). And food that doesn't need cooking in case the electric goes. (I have a 1 ring gas camping stove - but no naked flames allowed. I also have lots of tea lights and baking trays - which I am more likely to get away with as it's more fear of explosions they have the rules for...and I have a fire blanket ordered).
And I plan to get my balcony garden going again once spring starts - to have some guaranteed supply of greens and veg. Which I like to do anyway, not for prepping but relaxing and healthy food reasons - but will be making sure I do this year, just in case.
