What are you prepping? Do you think it's likely everything will escalate now?

I had been prepping for it under Biden but now Trump is in I am feeling a lot safer. Will still keep the preps though as Labour are in so I am expecting some issues (probably lots of power cuts thanks to Milliband). The only nuclear scenario extra thing I had in was about a two month supply of Potassium Iodide tablets.

Still feeling the same way?

we have solar panels are are looking at getting off grid capacity so they still work if the power is out.

im also planting a lot more food this year

Growing more food is a great idea, I should prob organise that asap. I live in a small house so I don’t have anywhere to store frozen goods or stockpile.

I need to start thinking outside the box, am not usually worried but I have to admit that witnessing Trumps antics last week put the fear into me.

If anything, make sure you have water at home. In the freezer, or places like under your bed?

I’m going to use hanging baskets attached to the fence posts for lots of strawberries and cherry tomatoes. It will give me lots of extra space and they will get a good amount of sun raised up higher. I’m also mixing veg into the flower borders.

we have chickens who have just come into lay and I’ve bought two new blueberry bushes, raspberry canes, blackcurrants and lots of seed potatoes

Don’t forget to take out smaller notes as there might not be change available.

I grew cherry tomatoes in hanging baskets for years - great way to do it! (I just can't hang them in my rented apartment now). Also, if you are stuck for space, thing about growing along fences (things like peas or beans that you can train up netting), or on windowsills in pots (salads, spinach, spring onions, radishes all great) or in larger pots on patios (peppers, climbing tomatoes, courgettes, chilli's, leeks, peas and beans up canes...). Dwarf varieties are great for pots and can do really well if fed properly.

I now only have a balcony, but use windowboxes and canes for peas and beans, large pots for tomatoes and courgettes, smaller pots in a stand for herbs, and other window boxes for salad things.

If growing in pots, it's a huge help to put a good handful of water retaining gel or crystals in the compost when planting up initially, as that really helps in hot days. You'd still need to water daily pretty much as they are thirsty plants, but it helps them not go into shock if really good weather comes and they would dry out in the course of the day.
