From budget to fantasy and in various levels in between?

Budget: I have treated myself to a few of these for birthdays and Christmas but some are still only on the wish list
Car charger that is also seatbelt cutter and glass breaker.

Flint and steel.

Water purification tablets.

Disposable bbq
Head torches
Many little torches for each bag/car/

Branded Cous cous packets (rather than making your own from own spices and a large pack.)

Next level:
Good insulated travel cup.
Good flask./food flask with different sections
Wind up torch.
Disposable bbq stand.
Brighter torch and or lantern for car.
Solar lanterns (want one each for child's room)
Life straw.

Bit more expensive:
Solar power banks for kids.
New bag to take to hospital with lots of pockets for different things.
Merino wool base layers and woolly jumpers.

Expensive:
A good brand waterproof coat or two.

Fantasy:
House with good big garden and well insulated and room for lots of fruit and vegetables. Fruit cage etc.
Solar power generator.

What's on your wishlist o

A Kelly Kettle.

Diversion · 23/09/2022 19:31

A new food dehydrator, mine just died. Would love a freeze drier but they are so expensive.
A Big Berkey water filter
A Life Saver jerrycan
Another solar charger, we have one but another would be great

bellinisurge · 23/09/2022 20:23

Berkey filter and a substantial solar charger

LadyAethelfled · 23/09/2022 20:26

A house with a garden to grow own food.
A camping stove/BBQ as currently have no way to cook food in a power cut/blackout.
A wood burner for heating the house.
Solar panels

FoolShapeHeart · 23/09/2022 20:41

I'd like:
A water BOB
A decent shower setup with batteries
A mini wind turbine
A Berkeley style water filter
Top class insulation
A Kelly kettle (now ordered)
Self defence classes

Fantasy level:
A secluded carbon neutral smallholding in a safe spot, with decent travel links but a concealed entrance, plenty of land, a reliable water source, passive solar heating. Plus anything else that'll future proof us as much as possible.

EveningOverRooftops · 23/09/2022 22:03

I have most of what I need but some things I’d like.

hand crank kitchen tools. Stand mixer would be my first choice.

if I have to stay here and extension to make a pantry/more storage space and a porch front and back so I’ve somewhere to get wet/muddy/outdoor gear off before coming into the house properly.

money no object or d be moving from here. I’m not a big people being really close by person and crave something with more space between houses, more privacy and a bit more land.

TheScorpionandtheFrog · 27/09/2022 11:22

A Berkey water filter and ample water storage. Solar panels and battery storage. Chickens and quail, and a better veg patch with a greenhouse.
If I win the lottery I'd like to move out of the city.

scissorsandsellotape · 27/09/2022 11:26

I have no idea what any of these are. I am now worried about my non level of prepping

TightDiamondShoes · 27/09/2022 11:31

Polytunnel- I’m in a cold, windy place and I’d like to grow more than kale and tatties.

a boat - we’ve managed to go with friends a few times and the freezer is filled with cod.

TheScorpionandtheFrog · 27/09/2022 11:51

If you can't afford a polytunnel and you have the space, look around for a privet hedge and see if you can grow cuttings from it. You can grow a very dense hedge by planting them 2 deep. Its frost hardy and copes in poor soil.

TightDiamondShoes · 27/09/2022 12:00

😁 I do not live in a hedge friendly place - windswept moorland with salty air.

TheScorpionandtheFrog · 27/09/2022 12:12

Common privet is salt tolerant! You might have to protect the cuttings until they are 2or 3 years old.

TightDiamondShoes · 27/09/2022 12:19

I have no reason to lie to you, hand on heart - where I live is famous for having nothing grow. There’s nothing between my garden and the north pole. 😁 well… a few sheep maybe.

TightDiamondShoes · 27/09/2022 12:22

(I live closer to the arctic circle than London)

TheScorpionandtheFrog · 27/09/2022 12:23

What you need is a polytunnel Grin

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 27/09/2022 12:29

What you need is a dug greenhouse! Dig a bit pit in the ground (with a digger), and build a roof over it.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 27/09/2022 12:35

Headtorches aren't just a prepper thing, everyone should have them! I got them for the kids' christmas stockings years ago and they've been so useful that we got more for DH and I. We use them for all sorts. I've been known to wear one while reading a cookbook with very small writing. And crocheting with black yarn. And going out in the dark to give antibiotics to a chicken (they're easier to catch in the dark because they're sleepy). And DS keeps one on his bedside locker for going to the loo in the night, or going downstairs early on dark mornings. They're also good for examining sore throats, and looking for things that have rolled under the couch. Basically everything is better with a headtorch.

I have seen a glorious dug fruit cage here which made me weep with envy… 😳 I’ll save up for the £3k plastic reinforced tunnel. It’ll only take me 30 years to make it back in home grown. 😉

BiddyPop · 27/09/2022 21:11

Budget:
Some tinned potatoes
Decent ramen (Asian supermarket has some nice ones I just never get there)
1 spare headtorch

Medium:
Tilly lamp or similar oil lamp
Another decent power bank (DH has "borrowed" mine and I've given 3 reasonable ones to DD but they are all "at school" so there are none here)

Daydream:
Smallholding with running water, mature trees, space for chickens/pig/couple of sheep, fruit cage full of soft fruit bushes, orchard of fruit trees, space to cultivate veg, roofs to carry solar panels and lots of water catchment off them, (roofs on top of ) storage space and workshop space, well insulated and comfortable home with low energy usage, room for crafting materials to be able to repair things, root cellar for storing food and alcohol.

BobBobBobbing · 28/09/2022 11:13

The Jackery solar powered battery has already earned its place in my prepping cupboard by keeping DH's cpap going when we had a power cut. I'd love a second one to power the freezer and wifi.

My wood burning oven was a present from my parents when they got the money from my grandmothers will. Am looking forward to that being fitted in a few weeks.

Next on my wishlist are solar panels but need to do some serious saving for that. Fantasy level would be a house in the country with lots of land.

Agree with this. Also love mine for similar and varied reasons. I've eventually gotten round to buying one of these though. Headtorch beanie. Removable torch (3 light settings, usb chargeable so no faffing with batteries) £10 from amazon. So in the event of a power cut or having to run around on a cold dark night looking for an errant chicken, your head is warm too.

What prepper equipment is on your wishlist ?
andymary · 28/09/2022 12:28

Standard Wishlist -
Some more gas canisters for the camping stove.
Small solar system to charge devices/rechargeable batteries for torches/lamps etc without needing to waste disposable batteries.
Long life 25-year emergency food kits, like a 3-month, or 6-month supply for the household.
Another Crossbow.
More Crossbow Bolts.

Dream Wishlist -
New house with an underground bunker in the garden... I've been watching too much of Atlas Bunkers on Youtube! 😅

snowballupahill · 28/09/2022 17:20

Thinking Kelly or ghillie kettle might be a plan and definitely some gas canisters for camping stove. Bit concerned here as have no wood burner so don't have a heating alternative plan if there is no gas/electric.

BlackeyedSusan · 29/09/2022 14:14

try those gel reusable hand warmers.
