Stocktake Time - Brexit Countdown

Can't believe we might actually have a No Deal crash.

Anyone else finding it overwhelming doing usual Christmas stuff, the winter weather preparations and then Brexit and being ready for more coronavirus stuff?

I need to do a stock take of food and toiletries.

We've been life prepping so boiler has been serviced early, electrics have had an upgrade this year. Car getting serviced next month.

I can't be arsed.
I feel sick.

@EveLe that does sound beautiful! I have a friend living in a very isolated location in Scotland, it's mountainous but she's not actually on a mountain. She keeps about three weeks' worth of food in big chest freezers and cupboards as like you, when they get snowed in they REALLY get snowed in!

We visited Snowdon a few years ago and that was lovely too although we were lazy and got the train up

@MarshmallowManiac is there anyone who could do a quick shops visit for you until you can get there yourself - friend/ family/ neighbour/ local volunteer? Who Gives A Crap can ship toilet roll if that helps!

@BlackeyedSusan I also have plenty of stashing to do... just couldn't face it as I'm feeling a bit rough today (AF not Covid!) so have been sorting out Christmas presents instead, I have some to post once the last bits arrive. I may also have accidentally eaten some Christmas chocolates Xmas Grin

MarshmallowManiac · 10/12/2020 14:59

Thanks Clara will have to get DH only sometimes he works late and there's nothing in the shops! Will have to look at Who gives a crap as heard such good reviews.

Whenwillow · 10/12/2020 15:42

It's odd that pasta, loo roll etc are oos for deliver. Shops in my area are looking completely as normal.
I overheard the cashier telling person in front of me that it's her first really busy shift (today) They seemed to be talking about Christmas I think.
Lots of offers on tinned soup in tesco.
I hope you can get what you need marshmallow

MarshmallowManiac · 10/12/2020 15:56

Thanks Whenwillow
I was in the Range two weeks ago and the cashier couldn't get over how busy it was. Also in Dunelm at the end of November there wasn't any lights/baubles. Think everyone has bought earlier this year.

caringcarer · 10/12/2020 21:16

We have all been to dentist and hot child opticians appointment on 19th Dec. We have a gas camping stove and 3 gas bottles. Got 4 torches and plenty of batteries. I have stocked freezer full of joints of meat as these might be scarce. I have for last 7 months requested my Thyroxine medication 1 week earlier each month so have about 2 months supply. They won't issue it any earlier. I bought 4 new shelving units to stocks food against walls in conservatory. Have loads of toiletries and loo rolls too. I also got craft supplies for child and had dogs groomed. I have stocked enough tins of cat and dog food for 2 month but have loads of dry food too so i can stretch it out if i have too. Long life milk X 30 and even got 3 X 20 litres of diesel for car in case fuel is in short supply. I am keeping car topped up too. I feel about as prepared as I can get. I might get a few boxes of candles just in case of power cuts. I have a couple of cans of squirty cream but might get a couple more. I have 3 tins of yeast and 20 kilo of flour do can make many pizza.

indignatio · 10/12/2020 21:21

And a sense of well-being?

indignatio · 10/12/2020 21:23

Sorry bad day. Ignore me

BlackeyedSusan · 10/12/2020 21:27

Lots of people are factoring in having to isolate for two weeks, I suspect. Lots of talk on Radio 4 about no deal consequences.

Just done the online shop for tomorrow crossing off lots of things as the fridge is still full.

BlackeyedSusan · 10/12/2020 21:49

Clara, hope the chocolate helped.
@indignatio Chocolate hope your day got better.

indignatio · 11/12/2020 04:46

@BlackeyedSusan thank you.
Again my apologies for being grumpy and rude.

Ridcully82 · 11/12/2020 07:08

I noticed yesterday a few different radio/TV news pieces about covid related port delays, then the Brexit mood music, and related delays:all made me grateful my pantry is just about there,as can see more people paying attention and starting to try and make up for lost time. It's starting to feel more real now

cachedelete · 11/12/2020 11:56

I don't think I've commented so far but wanted to say thanks to everyone who's contributed to this forum - it's been very useful and helped me to stop feeling ridiculous about 'just getting one more'.

Brexit shitshow aside, we are possibly going to be staying in until Christmas as COVID charges through local schools so I'm glad we have stuff to see us through (and other deliveries booked) and that I made an effort to get on local veg box scheme (although I'm eating more cauliflower than desirable!).

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 11/12/2020 12:05

I agree @Whenwillow, the actual shops seem to be fine, plenty of stocks! Not having products available for delivery is a real pain for anyone who can't go in person. We went to The Range last weekend and it was really busy, but everywhere else seems ok.

That sounds very well thought out @caringcarer Smile I've asked if the pharmacy will dispense my medication a bit early but they won't, they keep track of it strictly too. Sigh.

@Ridcully82 I saw the story on the news about Tesco stockpiling too and was listening to the radio stories about the number of European HGV licences being massively reduced, so we won't have enough people to physically go and get products regardless of any import or tariff issues... all this on top of the hard work that has been 2020 Confused

I did feel better for the chocolate thank you @BlackeyedSusan, but DS1 is now off school with chicken pox, I think I may have to restock to keep me going!! I bought some truffles from Flying Tiger a few weeks ago and thought oh well, they're only £2, if they're not great it isn't a lot of money wasted... they were delicious, I scoffed the lot Blush

Hope you are feeling better now @indignatio Flowers

AldiIsla · 11/12/2020 21:37

@AldiIsla

10 Week Plan.

19/10 -Full stock take
26/10 -Defrost Small Freezer
2/11 -Draught proof and winter duvets on
9/11 -replace bathroom taps, reseal bath
16/11 -car service pray, to car gods
23/11 - big batch cook
30/11 - defrost fridge freezer
7/12 - buy booze for Christmas and January
14/12 - big treat ship for Christmas and January
21/12 - full fridge with cheese, butter and deli meats
28/12 - be too fat and drunk to care anymore

I've started my stock take and made lists in 8 catagories.

Medicine
Toiletries
Dry Good
Tins
Freezer
Fridge
Treats
Emergency

I'm going to try and tick a few things off each section every week. It's just filling gaps so no huge purchases needed. Stock take will stop me buying what we don't need.

I did it. All. With time to spare.

Drinking the wine stash now. Fat and drunk here I fucking come.

@AldiIsla I hope the car gods were kind. We’ve decided it’s too much to repair our oldest car, and are going to be a one car family for 6 months gulp. Not the cars fault, it is an 06

AldiIsla · 12/12/2020 03:16

Mine's coming up to that kind of age too. They were kind and benevolent Car Gods.

Talking to some friends tonight and can't believe we're this close with no idea what's going to happen.

Begonias · 12/12/2020 12:27

I'm beginning to feel anxious as we get closer to the 31st. I have 2 more deliveries between now and then and plan on stocking up on more dried goods. I'm buying a little extra for the foodbank as come January their donations will be limited as everyone will be looking after themselves.
If anyone needs any flour Asda have some for 20p and gluten free for 33p (online). Hope everyone is prepared as we can be under the circumstances. X

AldiIsla · 12/12/2020 15:38

Accidentally went to Food Warehouse and got a 100 wash box of surf, 2 kg of cheese, some part baked baguettes, chilli powder, uht and popcorn.

Then Aldi was there and I bought loads of Christmas cheese, their wholemeal rice sachets, baby milk (not sorry) and crackers.

I'm nervous. I read the guardian article about the delays.

I've benn a lurker alfir a couple of years and just wanted to thank everyone for their prepped ideas.

I prepped last year for brexit, but then used all my stock for covid.

But I remember telling colleagues the importance of prepping and I was laughed at!
However since yesterday, I have received a number of messages asking for my advice of what to buy to prepare.........hmmm Hmm
Anyone else had the same?

AldiIsla · 12/12/2020 16:49

They were baying for the blood of anyone who had more than one bottle worth of formula here last time.

OP posts:
Whenwillow · 12/12/2020 17:04

If I had or was expecting a baby, I would without a doubt be making sure I had milk/nappy supplies. After March we know that the unexpected can happen. I really really hope that parents at least have a spare tin to give them time to search more out of necessary. Ditto calpol etc.

minou123 · 12/12/2020 17:12

Christ!

I was just laughed at and mocked.

Then covid happened and they realised bad things can happen.

AldiIsla · 12/12/2020 17:46

I still think it'll be a shock for some if the food chain is slowed down. Look at how many could afford to have a buffer in for 2 weeks isolation and don't because someone else will do their shopping.

OP posts:
BlackeyedSusan · 12/12/2020 20:44

gosh, I know They were like, I can ask so and so to do it.... without a thought that so and so might be a little to British to say they were pissed off because they could have got themselves organised and been prepared rather than relying on them to go fetch stuff...

I was really shocked. but there you go. everyone different. I am sure they are equally shocked at my stash...
