Or something of a similar name.

Can anyone recall it. It is a fictional story set out like a blog. It was linked to on a preppers thread I was on before we got our own topic (in chat iirc)

I really want to read it again but can't find it.

Will keep you all posted on progress. I can't wait to have a pile of paperbacks to use as Christmas presents for the next five years!

ScrappyMalloy · 24/01/2016 16:36

I have added it to my Amazon wishlist, as I have promised DH I won't buy any books till February, but very keen to read it after all these good reviews on here Smile

Fivetoomany · 24/01/2016 17:01

Just purchased on Amazon. Can't wait to get stuck in Wink

Bodberry · 24/01/2016 21:45

Just got it on kindle and am a little way in. Thanks powerless it's a good read, taking it to gymnastics to keep me occupied while LO throws herself about enthusiastically 😳

cozietoesie · 25/01/2016 10:54

I bought it but am still apprehensive about the pet pig. Grin Don't tell me. (I'm still reading.)

SpidersFromMars · 25/01/2016 12:25

powerless2015, so excited that there'll be a paperback version!

I read this a while ago (and now have some ex-battery chickens!)

Because it's a blog on wordpress, you can order the posts by date ascending, to put them into chronological order

What a brilliant read, thanks. Wrote so well,

Thank you

cozietoesie · 29/01/2016 20:45

I see that Powerless is getting some good reviews for the Kindle version on Amazon. Smile

cozietoesie · 13/02/2016 11:34

I see a paperback is now available. Smile

cozietoesie · 13/02/2016 13:44

I should have added - that will sort my lists for Xmas. (If we get there OK.) Smile

suesteph · 17/02/2016 12:49

Thanks to all of you for encouraging me to publish Powerless. I wouldn't have dared without your interest and enthusiasm for it. So exciting to see it out as a weighty paperback - at least it's solved my present list for some time to come!

cozietoesie · 17/02/2016 12:56

Mine also. I'm going to buy a few copies soon for advance Xmas planning. Smile

suesteph · 19/02/2016 17:12

I've just realised how many Mumsnet discussions there are on prepping. Do you think they would all like to know about Powerless? I know it's not a survival manual, but people keep saying it is full of useful stuff.

cozietoesie · 19/02/2016 17:25

My first instinct would be to refer them to this board as of possible interest to them. ( There seem to be a lot of 'reference' threads here which is good.) I'd welcome views on that though.

cozietoesie · 19/02/2016 18:55

I've actually just had the power supply flickering several times - often a precursor of problems, so I've brought one of the rechargeable lamps in from the next room just in case. (I would normally have one by my side but they were all 'feeding' on some watery sunlight yesterday and I forgot to reinstate them.)

Good practice for reading the book anyway. Smile

TheWitchsCat · 20/02/2016 16:11

This is fantastic! I think if this happened we would just have to try to get to my parents who live in a small village. We're in a city, no open fire, no room for hens, never mind sheep, not much space to grow veg. We wouldn't last long here and that's without the looters.

I am slightly horrified that they keep peeling potatoes though. So many nutrients wasted! (Not to mention extra work). Also they're feeding liver to the pregnant woman, too much vitamin A for the unborn baby, surely? Anyone else think maybe Sandra should LTB?

I'm glad this is being published, I'm really enjoying reading it.

cozietoesie · 21/02/2016 06:37

It's a difficult one. I suspect that in the event of troubles, everyone would be thinking for quite some time that the balloon hadn't really gone up so would be almost automatically doing things (or at least attempting to do them) in the way they'd always done them - hence the potato peeling.

cozietoesie · 21/02/2016 13:19

A well produced book. Smile (Mine have now arrived.)

suesteph · 28/02/2016 15:55

I couldn't remember peeling potatoes! So just checked the whole manuscript and found it was mentioned a couple of times, but also some methods of cooking potatoes ( purely for the sake of variety!) would have required peeling. And of course the peelings wouldn't be wasted but would be boiled up to give to the hens ( or maybe the pig?) along with other scraps, in the absence of bought animal feedstuffs. Glad people are happy with the paperback. I need to order some myself now.

cozietoesie · 28/02/2016 18:05

I think that that's about right. In my childhood, kitchen waste such as peelings went to the animals. (Even tea dregs - loose tea - were mixed in with oats and given to the hens first thing. (They'd queue up for it - I guess it was the hen equivalent of a morning cuppa! Grin))

cozietoesie · 29/02/2016 09:20

The first of my paperback copies goes out as a present next weekend. Smile

suesteph · 29/02/2016 17:34

Really hope they like the book. If they do like it and feel like posting a review, even better! It's so exciting and rewarding, knowing Powerless is appreciated. Thanks again.

IlPorcupinoNilSodomyEst · 29/02/2016 17:39

I've had this on Kindle on the back of this thread and loved it! Now planning to make room for chickens .....

cozietoesie · 01/03/2016 15:07

I expect this weekend's copy to be greatly appreciated by the recipient's family. Smile I hope so anyway - the thought of a power cut has never entered their minds, I expect.

suesteph · 02/03/2016 17:44

We got off lightly this winter and the generator never came out of the garage, but two years ago we had the four day power cut over Christmas, at the same time as being cut off by a flood and a fallen tree. However, being used to power cuts we coped ( and cooked) with our open fires, camp stove and a big supply of candles and tea lights. The worst thing is the cold, but that also means you don't need to worry about losing food in the freezer - it never defrosts!
