I know it's way too early yet but had my gorgeous premmy On the 17th july at 31+2, just curious when other people's babies were allowed home? Docs have said aim for due date (sep 16th) but if all is well then could be before. I understand everyones different just curious.... Grin

My twins were born at 30 weeks and came home at 36 weeks. They had put on weight well and we had been taught to feed them through their NG tubes so we were confident that they would continue to get all the nutrition they needed.

muddledsheep · 27/07/2017 20:24

My ds was born at 32+5 and came home at 34+2 (11 days old) We'd been told to expect him to stay in til his due date but once he was managing his body temperature and he'd breastfed solely for 24 hours he was allowed home :) he's now a strapping 6'2 18 year old who's off to uni in the autumn!

mrsfee · 27/07/2017 20:31

I hope your little one is doing ok OP. DS arrived at 33/3 and came home at 37/0, just in time for the Wimbledon final! He was rubbish at maintaining his temperature which is why he was in so long. That said, we weren't expecting him home until his due date in August, so we were really lucky.

Parker231 · 27/07/2017 21:34

DT's born at 32.1 - both home at 38 weeks but back into hospital 3 weeks later due to loss of weight. Finally home after another 10 days.

BlackbirdSingsInTheDeadOfNight · 27/07/2017 21:55

DS born at 24+4 and home 11 days after his due date, which was pretty darn speedy for a 24 weeker. 120 days in total, though, and felt like way beyond forever.

Good luck getting your little person home x

Tasha36123 · 27/07/2017 22:00

My son was born at 26 weeks, he came home at 6 & half months old, but he had a lot of issues and then spent the next 3 years in and out of hospital, hope your little one is home with you soon x

EggysMom · 27/07/2017 22:02

Born at 29 weeks; came home just 2 days after his due date. He removed the oxygen cannula from his nose and threw them out of the cot on his due date, as though he was saying that he wasn't bothering with any of that nonsense Grin

MrsJayy · 27/07/2017 22:04

Not as premie as your wee 1 dd was born at 35 weeks was let home when she reached 5lb so 2ish weeks this was nearly 20yrs ago mind you so it has changed, it wont be long till your dinky dot is home

MrsJayy · 27/07/2017 22:05

eggysmom That is funny as if to say right that is me mother take me home Grin

MrsJayy · 27/07/2017 22:06

Mom meant mum obviously

MintChocAddict · 27/07/2017 23:06

Congratulations on your baby OP!
Had mine at 33+6. Home at 36. We were also told to aim for due date and any earlier a bonus.
It's not easy as medical staff aren't able to look too far ahead but your natural instinct is to look for a timescale.
Hopefully you'll have your little one home soon Flowers

ScandiManny · 27/07/2017 23:16

33 weeker - 3 weeks
25 weeker - 7 months (200 days)

Hope you have an uneventful few weeks and baby is home and well very soon :)

WS12 · 28/07/2017 03:45

Hugs to you OP 💐 And congratulations on the birth of your daughter! Hope you are well and keeping positive. I had my son at 32 weeks exactly, weighing 4lb 7oz. He was on cpap and oxygen for a few days, went under the lights a few times for jaundice, and eventually came home after 24 days in the NNU 😊. Message me if you want to chat any more, I remember how scary a time it was when I was there. Just remember it won't last forever (though it might feel it!) and you will come home soon xxx

MissisBee · 28/07/2017 04:23

DS born at 33+6, home 8 days later. We were fortunate that he had no health problems, just a bit if mild jaundice and needed tube fed to begin with. He suddenly learned how to latch on day 6. Hospital's discharge criteria was 48hrs established breastfeeding and weight above 2kg

FlipflopsOrWellieboots · 28/07/2017 04:34

31 weeks, 5 days and out 23 days later when she reached 4lbs....

Congratulations Flowers

FlipflopsOrWellieboots · 28/07/2017 04:35

She was born at 3lbs and 1/2 oz

jessicajaine01 · 28/07/2017 09:09

Mine was born at 31+3 and he spent 29 days in hospital. My hospital had an early release programme that you can be discharged under if you meet the criteria. He came home with the feeding tube and that was removed about a week once home x

SpeckleDust · 28/07/2017 11:50

Dd1 was 32 weeks, DD2 was 34 weeks - both spent 3 weeks in Neonatal unit/baby prison. DD2 was later but much more poorly and both had pretty bad jaundice.

I lived near the hospital so was easy for me to come and go fairly often. I mainly tried to be there for as many feeds per day as possible and for doing their care.

Try to take each day at a time as it feels like forever when you are there but looking back, seems like it went by in a flash.

Kjohnston · 28/07/2017 12:17

Our little dot was born at 33+4 and came home 4 weeks later. They said aim for due date but in reality, as others have said here, it was down to three things:

  • maintaining body temp on own
  • demanding food
  • putting on weight.

There was no weight limit. She was just 4lb and 5 months later we can't believe how small she was.

Wishing you all the best. x

MrsGabor · 28/07/2017 12:44

Born at 33w, we went home at 37w - they wanted breastfeeding established first and his jaundice took ages to shift

Piglet83 · 28/07/2017 14:23

Congratulations op! Our 24+4 had breathing issues, we just couldn't get her to make the leap from cpap! She came home on oxygen (far less scary than it sounds) four weeks after her due date (135 days) She is now a fabulous (really tall!) 5 year old. We made some wonderful friends in NICU who we still see now, its so lovely to see how all the tiny ones have grown! Very best wishes for a short, easy ride through NICU for you and your little one Xx

WS12 · 29/07/2017 07:42

I stayed for a week at first as there was a free flat in the hospital for parents of children staying there. After I went home I would go first thing on a morning stay all day, have lunch at the hospital then go home near bed time. Occasionally I'd go home for tea then back until day half 9 or 10pm.

It is such a hard time m, I remember feeling completely over whelmed. It was such an emotional time. Try and ask for as many cuddles from baby as you can, that helped me a lot. He nurses said never be afraid to ask to hold them, even if they look busy😊 Xxx

SolomanDaisy · 29/07/2017 07:55

Our DD came home before she was demanding food, but only because we were trained to tube feed her. That might be an option if you have a sleepy one and are trying to establish breastfeeding.
