Waiting for an abortion

I was hoping someone could help, I’m 20 years old and found out two days ago that I had gotten pregnant whilst taking the contraceptive pill religiously, I took a second clear blue test which stated 1-2 weeks, I’ve made the decision to have a termination as I am not in the right financial situation to bring a child into the world, I contacted msi and they have booked me in for my first phone consultation on Wednesday night, which will be 7 days after finding out I was pregnant, I’m panicking as I’ve read the process can take long before getting the medication, I was wondering if anyone could help me and offer any support of this has happend to them before x

I went through the same thing when I was 19. I went to the Dr and asked to be referred and then it was about a week later I went in and was given some tablets. I had to go back in 2 days later where they gave me a pessary and more medication. I stayed in hospital for the day until I had passed everything. I don’t think all need to go back to hospital after taking the medication and this was almost 20 years ago. Sending lots of love a reassurance xx

Pinkgirl12 · 04/06/2022 20:33

@Nik84 thank you so much for the reassurance, I don’t really know anyone who has been through the abortion process, I know I am not but I feel so alone , every day I have to wait for my initial consultation feels like 10 days, the time is going by so slowly and once you’ve made your mind up about it, it’s really hard having to wait long periods of time hopefully once I speak to them we can get the ball rolling xx

The waiting is so hard. You’ll feel so much better when you’ve had your consultation. Do something to keep your mind off it for now and make sure you are kind to yourself throughout. It was the right choice for me, i went on to have 2 children at 27 and 29 and it was definitely the right time xx

@Nik84 thank you so much for your kind advice and wisdom it’s something I really needed to hear, I know having a termination is a big decision but I know it’s the right decision 💓

Hi I went through this a few weeks ago, i originally rang my local NUPAS on a Sunday and got my 1st phone consultation on the Wednesday, and then normally after that they just post you the tablets out and get them a few days later, unless for any reasons you need a scan I did due to a previous molar pregnancy but this was booked for the following Thursday I had to go to the centre and that day I had the scan and tablets, but my anxiety kicked in and I couldn’t take the tablets with the not knowing and having 3 kids to look after I did ring them up the following day and they were lovely people there and really helpful and got me in for surgical abortion the following Sunday, the waiting was horrible to be honest just try to keep busy and it will soon come round hope all goes well for you xx

Pinkgirl12 · 05/06/2022 21:33

@Mum23s thank you so much for sharing your experience with me, hopefully it won’t take to long for me, your definitely right that keeping busy helps xx

Hi
I am in a very similar situation, I found out on friday i am pregnant, 6 weeks from my last period.
I am desperately trying to get a quicker appointment to get the ball rolling. The waiting around and unknowns of the situation are really really hard. I've basically been crying non stop since Friday.
Hopefully we can get through this together. I am so so scared.

Pinkgirl12 · 06/06/2022 13:18

@tennyhome i really feel your pain this is the exact same as me, every day waiting is like hell I just want this over and done with , I can feel my body changing I think the wait is making it much harder for me x

@Pinkgirl12 I’ve just gone through this. I tested positive on 20th May (Friday) and had a phone consultation the following Thursday 26th. Following that I needed a scan so my appointment was on Tuesday 31st, there I got given my pills and advised to take the 1st at home due to the drive back (about an hour) I wanted to do this anyway to check with my partner we were still in same headspace. Took the remaining pills on Thursday and now I’m just in post bleeding stage. So took 2 weeks in total for me.

Pinkgirl12 · 06/06/2022 22:15

@SEJ1789 thank you so much I’m glad to know the experience didn’t take to long for you, praying this is the same for me xx

@SEJ1789 how are you feeling now? I am so concerned when I eventually get the pills I am going to be in pain and unable to be normal again for months. I tend to overthink things and I have read a few horror stories. All the waiting doesn't help!

Fuzzyhippo · 07/06/2022 16:03

For me it's going to be a 5 week wait with MSI which is horrendous as I have HG and my mental health is really deteriorating. My phone consultation was today and my next phone appointment is in 3 weeks time so if they want me to come into the clinic it'll probably be longer than 5 weeks. I don't know how they can let people wait this long, I understand they're probably busy and there's only a few clinics in the South East, but this is awful Sad

tennyhome · 07/06/2022 16:18

@Fuzzyhippo i have managed to get a appointment with NUPAS and the wait times seemed less, maybe give them a call?

SEJ1789 · 07/06/2022 16:32

@tennyhome I’m feeling ok physically and mentally, however a bit sad today as it’s a week since I took that first pill.

So I think I have health anxiety and researched and read all the terrible things that could happen to me, in all honesty It was a lot better than anticipated. However I was very early so that might have helped (max 5 weeks). Try and get anti nausea tablets I didnt and the first pill made me feel so sick. The second pills I took about 36hrs after and just lay in the spare room for 2 hours scared to get up, I had bad cramps and was just generally uncomfy. I took the codeine I don’t know if it made much difference but have taken painkillers everyday until yesterday and had a hot water bottle at night. Around 3hrs I didn’t know what to do with myself as was in some pain probably only for 10 minutes went to the loo as had pressure and I think thats when I passed it as that quickly went back to period cramps. Cramps weren’t too bad the following day, pushed myself too much Saturday and Sunday had bad cramps again and felt rough. Yesterday I passed quite a few clots and today the bleeding has gone a lot lighter. In terms of bleeding nothing much came out on my pads, however until today was blood in the loo every time I went. I’m in no pain now x

I've tried but unfortunately they don't fund my area, the only ones that do are MSI. Used to be BPAS years ago who were great and only had to wait a week max. With MSI they seem to be terrible for waiting times from what I've read on other posts

tennyhome · 07/06/2022 16:47

@Fuzzyhippo I've enquired with BPAS and they still haven't got back to me despite saying they would respond in 48 hours. That was on friday. I cannot believe how they can leave people waiting for so long, its awful.

ElderflowerAccordian · 07/06/2022 22:09

Bpas took 4 days to call me. I had the consultation on the Friday and the home kit arrived the next day. Try not to worry, in my experience the pack arrived so quickly

tennyhome · 08/06/2022 07:07

@ElderflowerAccordian thank you for the reassurance, how was the actual abortion experience for you?
@SEJ1789 thank you for sharing, hopefully I’m just overthinking and it won’t be as bad as I thought too.

ElderflowerAccordian · 08/06/2022 13:08

Absolutely fine. I was so worried and upset but actually it was fine. I was in legoland the day after, with some mild cramps. I've had worse periods. I was petrified that it would be excruciating and traumatic. Without sounding blaze, it was a complete non event. Hope that makes sense but happy to go through my exact experience if you're interested.

Pink1314 · 08/06/2022 21:29

Hi all I just wanted to fill you all in as I know some of you like myself are waiting for abortions, I had my first phone consultation this evening with msi the lady was super helpful she explained that as I take the contraceptive pill and don’t have regular periods that’s I will need a scan prior to my abortion , I live in Bristol and sadly she had no availability around my working hours(I cannot take time of work) so my closet appointment for Tuesday one of my only days off is Bournemouth which is two hours away, I’ve decided to take the appointment as I want to get this sorted asap x

Nik84 · 10/06/2022 16:23

I also had a scan as I had no idea when my last period was so they had to make sure I wasn’t too far along. After the scan I was given the first set of tablets, so hopefully it will be similar for you. I asked them to turn the screen away so I couldn’t see anything x
