i threw all but the big stuff out in fit of it's never going to happen pique.

so i have:

car seat. cot. floor seat thingy. chest carrier.

am 33 weeks and haven't got anything else yet.

this is what i'm thinking:

  • 10 or so plain white soft babygrows (sleeveless, plus couple of sleeve and leg ones).
  • 2 bravado nursing bras (they were good last time).
  • some nappies.
  • tommee tippee breast pads (they were the only ones that didn't leak last time).
  • bedding for cot bed, new mattress too
  • pool in a box for homebirth i'm hoping for
  • big knicks for catching all the post birth gubbins.

that's it.

am i missing anything? anything been invented that is amazing since i last did this seven (count em) years ago?

any fabulous tips? thanks ladies.

I'm with you on that expat. Also lots of books to read when you're breast feeding this is also where a breast feeding cushion comes in useful.

Oh and tea tree oil and/or lavendar oil to put in your baths to sooth your bits.

Ledodgy · 27/06/2010 18:48

*soothe

Heathcliffscathy · 27/06/2010 18:53

is there no chance that my bits will come out of this unscathed????

Yes Dear there is some chance.

well, i had a forceps delivery with my first. H-F forceps and accompanying cut. luckily had a very senior consultant at ERI. 24 hour labour.

second delivery: 4 hour labour. got to hospital with minutes to spare. gave birth on my knees, no drugs, and only a 'graze'.

guess which hurt worse?

yooooowwww.

Heathcliffscathy · 27/06/2010 19:04

are you serious? the graze???

i had a graze last time...(there is still a nick there iyswim TMI!) but must have blocked out the pain!

oh man, it was stingy.

i had a ventouse and second degree tear this third time, that graze still burned a whole lot worse.

it didn't itch like stitches, though.

Heathcliffscathy · 27/06/2010 19:12

my last labour was 37 hours eek hopefully this time bit shorter??

second the matalan babygrows with fold over scratch mits. ~Never seen them anywhere but matalan, but god they were fab!

I used Always Ultra Night sanitary towels as less "bulky" than maternity pads, however I didnt tear or was cut or anything. Slight graze with each of them, but dont remember it hurting for any of them.... wondering if I should be by that

Congratulations and cant wait to hear of the arrival of your wee boy!

Ledodgy · 27/06/2010 19:31

Sophable, my first labour was long too, 19 hours established but she was back to back and i'd been 2cm dialated and in pain for 2 days before. However with my second established labour was only 40 minutes.

PlumSykes · 27/06/2010 19:36

Have you got a baby bath? If not, I had one of these bath supports. Totally save your back, and can be used in big normal bath from day one. Tesco etc sell them too.

Aitch · 27/06/2010 19:43

nah, plum, get a tummy tub. waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better. you can fill em up and watch eastenders.

soph, think about getting hold of a dvd player for the hosp, just in case you're in there for any lenght of time. i did the whole of bleak house while i was in with teeny dd2.

Heathcliffscathy · 27/06/2010 19:48

have IM and hoping to be at home aitch..in which case will have dvd player

and must strongly disagree re tummytubs...bought one and NEVER used it...ds wrapped in muslin in bath with me, unwrap voila.

Aitch · 27/06/2010 19:50

oh yes, we did that too, but the tummy tub was fabuloso also. dd2 v gripey in the evenings but all was calm when she was splashing away. she was in there until it went stone cold... plus, did i mention you can sit in front of the telly?

it is the only gimmicky thing that i think is no gimmick.

Heathcliffscathy · 27/06/2010 21:35

and blardy nappy bins...wtf? never again.

I swore by a battery operated swing..... just to be able to go to the loo/get a drink/breathe for 5 mins was brilliant.

I know its not everyones cup of tea but I loved it! You can pick them up pretty cheap on ebay (mine was £10 I think and managed to sell it for £45!)
