Thank you, it was a big relief when we got the first results back on Thursday last week.
The midwife at the hospital called us to let us know. She had told us that they would call and either say "it's all clear" or "please come to the hospital to discuss your results". She also made it clear that whatever time the results came in would be when they called so they wouldn't make an arrangment in advance as they don't like sitting on results when they get them.
It was a nerve wracking time and I have never felt depths of despair like the ones I went through last week. I am lucky that my outcome has been good but it's not something I want to experience again. My husband was a shaking mess when he took the results call.
He keeps a journal and has let me read last weeks entries - he suffered a lot, I don't think I realised how much until I read that.
The amnio itself was straight forward enough and made a lot easier by a lovely, if slightly odd consultant! Odd in that he had a funny manner but that was good because he took some seriousness out of the situation.
I got very upset and tense and cried throughout the procedure which probably made it hurt a bit more than if I'd been able to relax but the pain wasn't unbearable and it's just an injection at the end of the day. TBH - the Anti D injection afterward hurt more!
The bonus was getting to see my daughter on the scan for ages and having her sex confirmed 4 weeks earlier than most. The sonographer also gave me a stack of photo's (for free!!).
I'm not sure how much detail you want but in case you want lots...
I met with the consultant for half an hour immediately before he took me through to the scan room. We asked him loads of questions, some banal, some very direct ie. about his personal miscarriage stats etc... possible outcomes, dangers and risks to me and the baby.
The room itself had me, my husband, the consultant, 2 sonographers and a nurse for the amnio. Both my husband and I were very distressed, crying etc.. but they were lovely and passed us tissues!
After the procedure I felt tender but not in pain. I took it easy for a couple of days more out of paranoia than feeling I needed to but we were going stir crazy in the house so we did go out for dinner the night of the amnio and a pub lunch the next day so I wasn't on total bed rest.
I hope that helps and I'm sorry if I've gone on too much. I wish you both the best with yours and please do update the thread with how you get on.
