Hospital bag essential - sweets! But which ones?

Alicetheinvisible · 07/06/2010 08:49

This is not something i considered last time, but last night i started stressing that i needed sweets for my hospital bag Have still got 9wks til due date

Anyway, i have decided that sweets are VERY IMPORTANT this time but i cannot for the life of me decide which ones would be best.

I don't want boiled sweets (need to fit between contractions) but jelly sweets might not last long enough.

Such a dilemma.......

Help please wise Mnetters

Starburst/chewits?

hollyoaks · 07/06/2010 08:53

I took a Mars bar in and took bites between contractions with dd1, did the same for dd2 but didn't have time to eat. Also had a family bag of aero bubbles which I enjoyed after dd2's birth.

Sparkletastic · 07/06/2010 08:54

Haribo Starmix every time for me. Also enjoyed some Butterkist between contractions with DD1 as I recall....

HairyCanary · 07/06/2010 08:57

take some polos. I vomited in labour but was strapped to the monitor so couldn't get up to brush my teeth. A polo took away the taste for a while.
Also a Haribo fan.
What about some Lucozade energy tablets?

jamaisjedors · 07/06/2010 08:58

I took a kilo box of haribo.

And scoffed the lot pre-during-post birth.

whittywan · 07/06/2010 08:58

Jelly babies! Delicious, easy to chew and delicious.

nigglewiggle · 07/06/2010 08:59

Haribo for me too. Had a bit of a jelly sweet craving!

Alicetheinvisible · 07/06/2010 09:02

Hmmm, if the delivery unit is as hot as the antenatal ward was the other week then chocolate is out of the question [grrin]

Was thinking lucozade sweets would be sensible, but also want something yummy, polos are a good idea too....

I have no helpful experience yet, but perhaps little sugar free ones? They are a mild laxative which I assume could noly help post birth . You could get some pastilles to suck on and chew quickly if you need to.

Alicetheinvisible · 07/06/2010 10:29

So at the moment i am considering:

Haribo
Opal fruits
Polos
Lucozade sweets
Fruit Mentoes? (had a bit of a thing for them when i had MS)

Jelly Babies!!

The only way to go. Easy to swallow between contractions, instant sugar high/energy release, no fat (soooo important ) and the irony is beyond measure.

Got me through DD's delivery. Plan to do the same again.

Seriously, though, someone had suggested energy tablets, but by the time I was in labour I didn't want anything in my mouth while I was having contractions so spat them out. Jelly babies very quick to eat.

LittleMissSnowShine · 07/06/2010 10:37

Wine gums!! They always seem to take forever to eat, even though they're jellies and not boiled...

Also, Holland and Barrett do loads of strange pastilles in different flavours, some sugar free if (like me!) you have very weak and prone to cavity kind of teeth. I bought some vanilla mint sweeties from there a few weeks ago and I always have them in the car - yum!!

Alicetheinvisible · 07/06/2010 11:06

Jelly babies do make me feel a bit sick though.

Wine gums....hmmmmmm, good option,or perhaps fruit pastels?

Energy tabs
Was the only thing I used from my mahoosive hosp bag
HTH and good luck with impending arrival

Alicetheinvisible · 07/06/2010 12:09

Thanks, think i will get some Lucozade sweets anyway (remember quite liking them when i was competing)

Fruit mentoes or Fruit pastels are the ones to decide between i think..

RooBear · 07/06/2010 12:11

ooh fruittellas all the way

WickedWitchSouthWest · 07/06/2010 13:29

Jelly babies! Well, dh uses them when he's running marathons so I'm thinking they're an excellent energy choice I don't fancy the chalkiness of the lucozade sweets so I've got a couple of bottles of lucozade sport as well as water in my bag.

Alicetheinvisible · 07/06/2010 13:58

Really can't stomach many Jelly babies so they are out i'm afraid.

May get some lucozade sweets, fruit pastels, mentoes, fruitellas, wine gums etc and have a test to be totally sure

cheekymonkeyno3 · 07/06/2010 14:24

i had celebrations and wine gums with the last two so i had better keep up the tradition. 21 weeks to go still tho.

Alicetheinvisible · 07/06/2010 14:25

Cheeky - more time for testing though

Oo I had fruit pastilles with dd as well and they were good, chewy but not too chewy. Too many though and you feel like the roof of your mouth is cut to shreds!

dcb · 08/06/2010 13:16

Jelly tots?

Alicetheinvisible · 08/06/2010 14:48
