Wouldn't a couple more weeks inside be better for the baby?

Jacksmybaby · 04/06/2010 14:30

Here's a tip - don't try and get it out at 35 weeks. My baby couldn't feed BF or FF, had blood sugar problems, was tiny and severely jaundiced, stayed in hospital for ages. FFS. Hang on a couple more weeks.

sarahwadd1984 · 04/06/2010 14:48

If she's ready then she'll come without you doing anything.

I doubt your midwife expected you to go home and break your own waters to start premature labour.

Jacksmybaby · 04/06/2010 15:02

IF you are for real, I don't understand how you are on the one hand "trying so hard to keep her where she is" and on the other asking for tips to start labour off??

I have had a baby at 35 weeks; I don't see why on earth you would wish that on your child.

sarahwadd1984 · 04/06/2010 15:02

im not trying to break my waters you must be mad its only done by pro and not even thinking of doing it myself only if there was like a excerise i could have done to help her out or anything like that im not going to stick a pin up there lol i have read up that there is excerise i could do to help break them

my DD was born at 36 weeks and still has problems, don't do anything.

Lulumaam · 04/06/2010 15:08

no , there is not an excercise you can do get your waters to break

35 weeks is prem

your MW is giving you bad advice, or you have misinterpreted her words.. she might be 3.5 engaged, but that does not mean ready to be born

her lungs may not be ready.

she could have breathing problems or feeding problems

if your baby is ready to be born, she will be born

the fact you are not in labour at 35 weeks is a good thing

all the things you could try to get labour going will only work if your body is ready anyway, so leave well alone and let your baby develop until term . a spontaneous start to labour is far far better

Lulumaam · 04/06/2010 15:09

how low the baby is is not really a factor

babies can bob in and out of the pelvis and for second and subsequnet babies, the baby can be high until labour starts

so don't interpret her being partially engaged as = ready for birth

sarahwadd1984 · 04/06/2010 15:12

im WRITING it down on paper on on my babbies health so i can ask the midwife what she suggests omg some people just like making other people feel like crap i have read as the last meassage says i have read abut the excerises i can do with my last babbie i eat red chillies and she was born at 5.15 next moring so if i was trying anything to get her out i would have eaten them by now im trying to help my babbie not put her under pressure

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 04/06/2010 15:15

how mature, to say that people giving concerned advice is them just liking to "make other people feel like crap".

Jacksmybaby · 04/06/2010 15:16

I think it's a very good idea to go back to your MW and discuss it with her.

FabIsGoingToGetFit · 04/06/2010 15:16

If your baby was ready to be born, she would come.

35 weeks is prem and way too early.

Having had children before you know you just have to wait.

sarahwadd1984 · 04/06/2010 15:16

cool thanks for the advice this is my 4 and is so differnt to the other 3 i have had my 2 eldest were hard and my girl was so easy and this babbie is being a nightmare i have pro mislead what she was saying but trust me im not trying this stuff stuff out till i get 100% sure from mw with anything people have suggested im not trying to hurt my babbie or my body or anyone else but thats for the tips

What a strange op ....

Lulumaam · 04/06/2010 15:18

eating red chilli to bring on labour.. well, spicy food can stimulate the bowel and that can help trigger contractions .. IN A BODY THAT IS READY TO LABOUR

i do childbirth education and birth partnering, i am fairly well read and have lectured on my role at university

i am not trying to make you feel like crap

i am trying to advise that you allow your body to labour when it is ready

no MW i know would advise a 35 week pregnant woman to try to bring her labour on

the fact your baby is low down is not a sign that she is ready to be born

you don't know if her lungs are ready

if you get to 37 weeks, when you are full term, then go for it.. eat chilli, whatever, but right now, the safest place for your baby is in your uterus

sarahwadd1984 · 04/06/2010 15:18

thats what i been doing writing stuff down and asking her got appointment monday for her to check babbie and to disscuss the things i have read upon and the thing people have suggested to me and see what she says

i too am expecting my 4th baby, in fact i am 15 days overdue, and this little one has been fully engaged for over 2 weeks now, i am not interfering at all and am not allowing any medical intervention until they can tell me that this baby is at risk. your mw cannot possibly know when baby is ready, only baby can know that, and your baby will then trigger the hormone release that allows it to come, if your baby was ready it would be born!

Lulumaam · 04/06/2010 15:20

the best thing you can do to help your baby, is to do nothing to try to stimulate labour

and certainly call your MW and clarify what she said, as i really do doubt that she has said what you think she said.

your baby is premature and needs to be in you, growing and being protected

burmesegrumbler · 04/06/2010 15:28

My baby engaged at 34 weeks MW was convinced she was coming early, I'm 40 +13 today despite being very active - they come when they are ready. 34 weeks is premature, my sister was born spontaneously at 32 weeks and spent the first weeks of her like in an incubator, it was touch and go and heartbreaking for my mother not to be able to feed her or bond with her. Unless you have your dates wrong, your baby isn't ready, it's just trying the pelvis out for size/comfort.

AllSheepareWhite · 04/06/2010 15:41

Being 3/5 engaged does not mean bub is ready to come out they can bob up and down and MW measurements of engagement can be wrong as they only do it by palpating they do not scan to see. My niece was born prem recently spent over a month in incubator and has a hole in the heart and a hernia which may require surgery in the future. Last few weeks are really important as for brain and lung development too. Wait until full term, but if you are overdue and want to avoid induction I recommend walking, helps with contractions too. I walked 6 miles day before DD arrived at 39 weeks and that night went into labour(had been walking this regularly throughout pregnancy though, so don't overdo it if you haven't been doing much).

burmesegrumbler · 04/06/2010 15:48

Hey Allsheep,

Been walking for three hours a day since going on mat leave and walking to work and going to yoga three times a weeks since the off! She just isn't ready 40+13 today! Thanks for the recommendation though.
