does a very active baby in utero mean anything post birth?

seriously, i was not expecting to be kicked black and blue!! just wondering if an overly active baby in utero who literally does not stop wriggling, kicking, somersaulting etc means he will be particularly active post birth? or even better, that he'll have worn himself out for weeks so he'll be really laid back and placid

It was certainly the case for ds2 - very active in utero, very physical as a baby and now a whirlwind 4 yr old! Sorry!

MollieO · 31/05/2010 22:11

Ds (5) very active in utero and the same now. He seems to have boundless energy compared to other children of his age and has done since he was born.

chipmonkey · 31/05/2010 22:29

ds3 was very, very active in utero compared to the other 3, was born prematurely and turned out to be very feisty and still is! He is adorable though and manages to charm the majority of people.

SirBoobAlot · 31/05/2010 22:41

DS is nearly seven months, was the biggest wiggler in utero, and now, although he is not yet crawling... Well...

Good luck

MollieO · 31/05/2010 22:44

Ds didn't walk until he was 22 months. Didn't stop him beiang active though. He was also 7 weeks prem. I love him to pieces but I wish that he would occasionally just chill on the sofa like some of his friends seem to do .

JaxTellersOldLady · 31/05/2010 22:45

sorry OP, I am with the others, had a wriggle bug in utero, even when I was giving birth she was still kicking me when her head was out! Was the strangest feeling ever!
DH and the midwife were She has just turned 7 and is the most lively, most energetic thing ever. She is always smiling, happy and loves everything about life! She wriggles and kicks and chats in her sleep too.

jellycat · 31/05/2010 22:46

Yes, IME: ds1 very wriggly in utero and now very active and physical, finds it hard to sit still. ds2 much less wriggly in utero and now much more placid.

Linnet · 31/05/2010 23:09

Sorry to say but my dd2 is the same, very active in uetro and still very active now, she's just turned 6. She always has something to say, finds it hard to stay still but we love her.

wukter · 31/05/2010 23:11

DD was very wiggley in utero and very wiggley now.

ShowOfHands · 31/05/2010 23:15

Well, most children are fairly active. DD was not a wriggler in utero really, fairly placid apart from daily hiccups and calisthenics. She physically cannot sit still as a non womb dweller.

BuckBuckMcFate · 31/05/2010 23:18

Yes, DS2 was a real wriggler. I was constantly battered by him, I ended up being x rayed at 8 months because they thought he may have broken my ribs Fortunately he hadn't but he was back to back and spent the whole time continually kicking outwards and upwards into my rib cage.

He is 6 now, still a wriggler, fidgety, run not walk type. It does seem it is physically impossible for him to sit still

Anifersgirl · 01/06/2010 08:46

Oh dear. I've got a non-stop wriggler too. Better batton down the hatches and get ready for a whirlwind (which I was too, according to my mum.)

nymphadora · 01/06/2010 09:06

Dd1-calm did the required 10 movements a day and is still ike that at 10

dd2- v lively , had to be careful what I ate & drank when pg as she would be hyper. Didn't sleep properly for 7 years, loads of energy , crawled & walked early

dc3- seems v lively so far. Am 20 weeks and lots of movement. Stocking up on sleep and safety gates [exhausted]

TheArmadillo · 01/06/2010 09:13

oh god.

Ds is constantly moving and was reasonably active in utero.

This baby doesn't stop moving - much more active than ds was.

I wanted a calm one this time

Shaz10 · 01/06/2010 09:15

I had a wriggler in utero but he's fairly chilled now.

DaydreamDolly · 01/06/2010 09:17

Yep, I have a fidgety fidget here too who was nicknamed 'Disco baby' when I was pregnant as she was so active.
She sure keeps me fit!
Good luck!

oliviacrumble · 01/06/2010 09:20

Yes OP, it seems to correlate in my case.

Ds2 kicked and wriggled non-stop in utero, and now at the age of 7 frequently gives the impression that he has been plugged into the National Grid!

Best of luck! (am sure your baby will be adorable also ).

MarineIguana · 01/06/2010 09:26

Yes two super-wriggly pregnancies here and two wriggly/hyper children. DS now 4 just physically cannot sit on his bum for 3 seconds without writhing/fidgeting/falling off his chair. On the plus side he can walk for miles without complaining. DD is still a baby, not yet 3 months but already trying to roll over - and has amazed various doctors and MWs with her strength.

Look as if you will have a wriggler!

memphis83 · 01/06/2010 10:22

my mum says active in the womb, active for life, my dh calls ours the raver as he parties all night long! (i hope this changes when hes here or i wont be sleeping for a while) good luck

sonsmum · 01/06/2010 10:26

DD - VERY active day/night in utero.
Now 12wks, and constantly shuffling in her moses basket.....arms/legs going up and down constantly when awake.
Also very strong, shuffles on the floor when placed on her front, almost crawls (help!!)

PanicMode · 01/06/2010 10:31

I think most healthy, happy children are very physical and have a lot of energy, particularly boys. I have four children (boy, girl, boy, boy); the older three are all very active and physical, and were all very wriggly in utero, although my third is my most chilled baby, despite being the most wriggly in utero. My fourth is only 6 weeks old so no idea yet.

So there may be a correlation, but it could just be because they are young children.....!!

MoChan · 01/06/2010 10:47

I only have one child, but she was incredibly energetic in the womb, constant moving and kicking, seemingly all day and night. She is still like this. She never ever, ever stops. Ever, Ever, Ever. Well, apart from at night, when she sleeps soundly until... 5.30am...?

[very, very, very tired emoticon]

SacharissaCripslock · 01/06/2010 10:50

My DS3 was a total wriggler and was the most chilled baby ever. My dad even though there might be something wrong with him as he was just so laid back! He's 2 now and totally wild so has made up for it.

Francagoestohollywood · 01/06/2010 11:03

Dd was very active in utero and was a very placid baby (she is now six and very lively).

Ds, on the contrary, was quiet in utero and was far from being a placid baby. He is now a very active, lively nearly 8 yr old.

TheBossofMe · 01/06/2010 11:08

DD - wriggly all the way. Still is. Rather exhausting, really!
