What's the longest anyone's gone OD?

Hi - I'm 40+5 today. Due to EMCS with DD1 have been told that can have no induction (which I'm actually happy about) but am facing prospect of ELCS on 16th if nothing's happened by then. I have asked my consultant if I can make this later, all being well, as I've read that 42wks is perfectly normal (I would only be 11 days over on 16th). So far I haven't had an answer except 'let's wait and see what happens'.

Anyway, just wondering, out of interest what's the longest any of you lovely ladies have gone OD - either through refusing induction or ELCS?

Oooh another one not induced til 16 days. In our area they are trying to get you induced at 40+9!!

BomDigger Did they suggest induction before 16 days with you?

thisisyesterday · 11/04/2010 11:47

a good friend of mine is 42 +5 today and still no sign of things moving!

nappyaddict · 11/04/2010 12:00

What sort of management is she having?

thisisyesterday · 11/04/2010 15:20

post dates monitoring, it isn;t every day, maybe every other day i think.she is in america right now, so not sure if they handle things any differently than here

Piccalilli2 · 11/04/2010 15:35

Both of mine were induced at 15 days over and arrived 16 days over but had to be dragged out. Dd2 though had the cord round her neck so I was probably lucky to be induced and under constant monitoring as otherwise she probably would have died.

MumNWLondon · 11/04/2010 16:12

fabhead - interestingly when I had my birth centre assessment I told the midwife I was reading Ina May's book and really enjoying it and she got really excited, and started telling me how much of a fan she was. I am taking that as a good sign!

kittycat37 - did you go into spontaneous labour the first time and if so when?

nappyaddict · 11/04/2010 16:23

Those of you that went over 42 weeks did you have expectant management? When did the hospital first want you to have induction? Depending on your area it seems to be any time between 9 and 14 days which seems a bit too varied TBH.

mosschops30 · 11/04/2010 16:37

15 days with ds1
16 days and EMCS with ds2, he deffo did not want to come out despite about 10 sweeps, propess, prostin and ARM

when i was nearly a week over with ds3 i went for a post-dates consultation with one of the senior midwives who booked me in for an induction at 42 weeks. it was only provisional, as I had no intention of being induced, but wasn't about to start arguing righ there and then! lol

anyway, i did ask her what happens if i decided i didn't want to be induced and she just said they would "allow" me to go to to something like 19 days over, with monitoring

thankfully i had him that night

MumNWLondon · 11/04/2010 21:24

seems to be massive differences around the country. in my last pregnancy they told me they'd want some sort of monitoring (I think an hour sitting on CFM) every 2nd day from around 40+5.

thisisyesterday · 11/04/2010 22:12

turns out i was a day out! my friend has just had her baby at exactly 43 weeks! how exciting :-D

tots2ten · 11/04/2010 22:24

dd1 9 days late
dd2 19 days late (induced) midwife forgot about us as it was over easter
ds1 11 days late (induced)
dd3 induced 2 weeks early
ds2 induced 1 week early
dd4 induced 1 week early

nappyaddict · 12/04/2010 00:56

SGM They generally won't give induction before 41 weeks unless there is a medical reason for it or for a very exceptional reason like your DP is in the forces and is about to be posted abroad.

I think they really seem to have had a policy shift though which i think is a good thing. When I was having ds1 at St Thomas in 2004 as soon as you got to 37 weeks I'd hear them saying (to me and other) oh you're full term now you might as well just get on with it and have an induction. Same with CS's - the women from my NCt class that were having ELCS all had them the minute they turned 37 weeks.

I have noticed tho that on the second and subsequent births they seemed to let them go to 39 weeks for ELCS and I wasn't pressurised for induction with ds2 until I'd hit 40 weeks. I get the impression that they want women processed in and out to a certain extent due to resourcing but maybe have finally noticed that 37/38 week babies have more trouble with establishing feeding etc than full time ones so they are maybe better off with a bit of expectant mangement but less issues afterwards?

nappyaddict · 12/04/2010 16:40

That's interesting I didn't know that about 37/38 weekers. My DS was a 38 weeker and really struggled with feeding.

fabhead · 12/04/2010 18:15

Dunno if it's anything official - just my observation. People who have had elective c sections - has the week they do it in shifted? Certainly everyone I knew with ds1 that had ELCS (personal preferences, breech and medical history) had them at 37 weeks and then 39 for second ones.

UPDATE
Thanks to all on this thread. The same night I started it I went into labour at 1am - things went so quickly it was impossible to get to hospital and DD2 popped out in our bathroom(after 3 pushes) into DH's hands at 3.33am whilst he followed instructions from 999 operator. The ambulance turned up a little while after.......it was wonderful, scary and totally unexpected. She's doing really well. The contrast to DD1 (28hrs labour, emcs) could not have beed more dramatic).

Unfortunately the placenta was in no hurry to arrive and my BP went crazy so we were all taken to hospital by ambulance and were discharged eventually last night. it's great to be home.

Thanks for all comments and good luck to everyone overdue and waiting. xx

I went to 42 + 2 with Ds1

I didn't refuse anything, but after 42 weeks they started inducing because my waters broke, and he would NOT come out for another 42 hours!

coldtits · 13/04/2010 16:59

In Leicestershire they will happily let you go 14 days over, so I do think that the "must induce at 10 days" thing must be a pile of crap.

Caucasian women typically have a 41 week gestation period anyway, and in France 41 weeks is considered 'term'

Disclaimer - SO I AM TOLD

SweetGrapes · 13/04/2010 17:08

Congratulations Kittycat37!! Great news!

thedollshouse · 13/04/2010 17:08

Oh lovely news kittycat37

I'm 40+2 and anxiously waiting for labour to start. I'm booked in for an elective at 40+12 due to previous c-section. They did actually want to induce me but I feel more comfortable going for a second c-section if the labour doesn't happen naturally.

I'm hoping for a smooth labour although maybe not so speedy as yours, I don't fancy the baby arriving on the bathroom floor!

MumNWLondon · 13/04/2010 17:28

OMG - unplanned unassisted HBAC on bathroom floor! How exciting and how scary!

I have had 2 straightforward SVD's and would find that scary too. Glad you are all home and all is fine.

Just shows for all those worried about VBAC after emergency CS that 2nd births can be very different and much quicker than first ones.

fabhead · 13/04/2010 18:45

bloody hell that's what you call a VBAC! glad to hear you a) managed a VBAC and b) both are well.

Wow!
