What happens after you miscarry? Do you have to go for a follow up scan to check everything has gone so to speak or do you only go for a follow up scan if there appears to be problems?

confuddledDOTcom · 24/02/2010 15:51

Depends where you are and if there's reason for concern. Normally it's just standard post-natal, you might have a MW like you would normally come and see you and you'll be expected to see your GP for your 6 week PN check.

nappyaddict · 24/02/2010 15:57

What about if you have ERCP? I thought it was starting naturally but nothing has happened yet so am now starting to think about ERCP.

confuddledDOTcom · 24/02/2010 17:18

I've never had one so I'm not sure.

Neeko · 24/02/2010 17:52

Hi. I've been following this thread and I'm so sorry for all your losses.

I had an ERPC in March last year for a MMC at 12 weeks. I had no follow up scan but they would have done one if the bleeding hadn't stopped after a few days. I hope that helps Nappyaddict and that you're gentle on yourself over the next few days and weeks.

cakeywakey · 24/02/2010 18:01

Bigmuther, I've been thinking of you and hope that the next few days go as quickly as they can for you.

I hope that the hospital treats you well and that you also treat yourself kindly in the days and weeks to come. You'll be grieving for your baby and what should have been - don't forget that or let anyone else downplay it. It's not an easy time but we're all here for you. Take care .

xxkt1xx · 24/02/2010 18:12

nappy i dont think at 15 weeks you would have a follow up scan but im not 100% ...you do however still have to have a wellbeing check with the midwife the day or two after...i know it may not seem it, time does help and you will feel better in your own time xxx everyone varys as to how long this is...some people cope by gettingpregnant again straight away...some have other children to help them get by and some have lots of support...i hope u can find your own personal grieving process mate and there will always be someone to listen to you on here xxxx stay well

hi! nappyaddict & bigmuther65

I had an ERPC at the end of March 2009, for a MMC at 15 weeks. The ERPC itself was ok, but the day after I started to get pains, but got completely drunk that night and thought no more of the pains, I woke the next morning to full on contractions, ended up having to call an ambulance, had gas & air, got to hospital and had to have a vaginal scan. They found that I had 'retained products' and my body was trying to expel them. I was re-admitted to hospital, and I passed them through the night. I bled for 7 weeks. I didn't have any follow up care, apart from a bereavement counsellor.

I'm sorry if this is a scary story, everybody is completely different I am quite old at 38 years so maybe that had something to do with it. I hope you are getting lots of comfort from loved ones in RL.

My heart goes out to you both. xxx

nappyaddict · 25/02/2010 02:23

Oh Nappyaddict, I am sorry. I hope that you manage to make it through the day without too much medical intervention. Were you asked to go to the hospital when things started?

Are you OK?

Thinking of you bigmuther

Well just got back from hospital, had to spend 2 nights as the bleeding was very bad i actully manged to pass the baby with out to much medical intervention, but had to have a d&c yesterday to have remaining product removed.Physically i feel fine, but the mental pain is unbearable really struggling to deal with it at the moment.Just hoping with time it gets better.Have been offered counselling which i will definitely do.
Nappyaddict i am thinking of you,and if you can let us know how you are doing.

nappyaddict · 26/02/2010 14:40

Bigmuther65 I also had to have ERCP for retained products. Are you bleeding or in much pain? Luckily I haven't had either. Did they say anything to you about not drinking after ERPC? They didn't to me but read on here you're not supposed to?

hippychick66 · 26/02/2010 16:01

I think they say not on the day of the general anaesthetic but I'm sure it's ok from the next day on.

Blimey I've consummed a great deal of red wine since my EPRC. Actually, probably shouldn't advise you to do that - but I'm sure a few drinks is ok. You definitely deserve them.

Hope you are both feeling a bit better physically. I know the emotional bit is the one that takes time

Hugs to anyone whose just gone through this nightmare.

nappyaddict · 26/02/2010 16:18

When was yours hippy?

How long did the woozy effects last from the GA with everyone?

bigmuther65 · 26/02/2010 16:35

Not in any pain just a little sore ,bleeding not to bad just really like a normal period.
Was not told any thing about drinking, but as hippy said think just not for about 24 hours after anaesthetic.Physically i feel better than i have for a while,as i had really bad sickness,it's the emotional side that hurts more.Still find my self rubbing my tummy ,and then remember my baby is not there any more.

OP posts:
nappyaddict · 26/02/2010 16:48

I have done the same with the tummy thing. Did you have antibiotics in your canula too? Was just wondering cos normally when you take antibiotics you can't drink, but perhaps its different if it's only a one off.

Have you got any follow up scans booked? I haven't they just said I would need one if bleeding continued for a long time but mine stopped straight after the ERPC.

bigmuther65 · 26/02/2010 17:01

Yes i was given antibiotics ,maybe ring the hospital i was given a discharge leaflet with the ward phone number on in case of any problems.
I was told that i would not need a follow up scan.Don't think you need one if you have a ERPC.

my EPRC was 9 days ago. still bleeding a bit, but not much - just enough to need a delightful sanitary towel!

I had a one off dose of anti B's just before they put me to sleep.

I didn't really feel woozy at all - I'm lucky (ha ha - don't feel it right now) that anaesthetics don't have much of an effect on me. I've had 3 laproscapies for endometriosis and never got sick etc.

My DS (aged 9)said one of the teachers at school is heavily pregnant and he kept looking at her belly today and feeling robbed - I know how he bloody feels!!! It's totally sh*t.

Sorry ladies was meant to be all supportive for you. It does get a bit easier each day - honest.

When I first had the EPRC I still had very tender boobs and I had to remind myself when I woke up each day that I wasn't preg anymore. At least now I just automatically now it as soon as i awake.

Much love to you both. xx
