1 week off in late pregnancy with back problems, should have taken more, I was in agony and my work suffered anyway when I dragged myself regardless, they'd have been better off without me.

IZDI · 13/02/2010 09:52

yeah i did. 3 weeks before my matt leave started. worked in a school, it was getting hard and i was getting moody. boss was fine with it but sometimes they can role it into your matt leave to make it start early.

stinkypinky · 13/02/2010 10:04

Different work places have different rules about Mat Leave being enforced early due to pg related illness, so check policies. NHS cannot do this before 36 weeks.

Have had time off previously for high BP, and this time looks as if I might be heading the same way. Have 4 more weeks to work.

2boys2 · 13/02/2010 18:31

signed off till 16 weeks in second pregnancy with sickness.

lou031205 · 13/02/2010 18:55

Nobody can do it before 36 weeks by law.

lou031205 · 13/02/2010 18:55

Enforce mat leave, that is.

notcitrus · 13/02/2010 19:02

A week before I knew I was pregnant with 'flu' which caused them to take bloods and find out that actually I was over 3 months pregnant.

Then around 22 weeks took a week off with SPD as the pain and exhaustion was too much, and then at 23 weeks was told I wasn't allowed to commute any more (I certainly wasn't arguing).

So after that I was working from home 3 days a week and taking the rest as holiday, after another week for IT to screw up and not get my laptop to me. Have to admit my enthusiasm plummeted quite frapidly and I was not a good advert for homeworking. I started mat leave at 36 not 38 weeks, too (using holiday again).

Bumperlicious · 13/02/2010 19:25

Two weeks when about 30 weeks pg, had been miserable, stressed, couldn't walk properly. Went to occupational health and burst into tears. Suggested time off and dr signed me off no problems. Was the best thing I did, can't imagine I would have got to 35 weeks at work without doing in.

indigobarbie · 13/02/2010 20:08

Signed off at 22 weeks for one week due to SPD. then signed off at 26 weeks due to SPD and now am 41 weeks. Mat leave started automatically at 36weeks

LizzieHart · 13/02/2010 20:40

2 months sick leave with hyperemsis.

now back on phased return at reduced hours. I am 22 weeks now.

sophieandbelly · 13/02/2010 20:46

yep 4 weeks with spd

LazyJourno · 13/02/2010 20:54

About 24 weeks had horrendous cold with temperature which didn't come down far enough with paracetemol. Had to sit in tepid bath to keep temp down.

They tried to record it as cold/flu but I pointed out that if I hadn't been pg I would've been able to take other stuff which might have got temp down and having a temperature at all wouldn't have been as much of a problem. They changed it without argument to pg related.

Washersaurus · 13/02/2010 20:58

Oh yes I went to the doctor and asked him to sign me off with pregnancy related illness (random) because (I was having a hard time at work and didn't want the stress during pregnancy) I wanted my ML to start early . As it happens I never went back after my AML....

lola0109 · 13/02/2010 21:11

I was signed off in my first pregnancy from 32 weeks with carpal tunnel syndrome, it was so bad that I couldn't drive, type or use mouse. All vital parts of my job.

It was the driving part that was a nightmare.

My mat leave then started at 36 weeks.

This time I was tempted to try and get signed off again but I haven't been inflicted with it this time and was actually enjoying work.

Washersaurus · 13/02/2010 21:22

Yes, I did have carpal tunnel syndrome when pregnant with DS1 too....and a weird sciatica problem - it wasn't really just about not wanting to go to work...honest

mampam · 14/02/2010 11:42

I have been signed off work since the end of October. Firstly for severe Hyperemesis and now I've got agonising SPD. Am signed off for the rest of my pregnancy now and I'm only 25 weeks.

I got signed off at 34 weeks with pre-eclampsia. TBH it came as an absolute relief, I wasn't doing much while I was there anyway as I was just too exhausted, stressed out and worried about the baby. Next time round I will start maternity leave at 34 weeks anyway.

sophieandbelly · 14/02/2010 14:48

play the spd card! hahaha (shouldnt say that as its hell and shitting it that i will get it again!) but they cant check u, so just explain what it feels like etc. look up symptoms on net, feels astho pubic bone is going to break painful to walk lift etc, hurts getting out of bed.

i found the doc very understanding i am sure u will get signed off

lineky · 14/02/2010 15:11

16 weeks with Hyperemisis at start of pregnancy. May be about to be signed off again due to high blood pressure

stressheaderic · 14/02/2010 16:06

Hmmm, am not sure - I think these things always come back to bite you...

We had a snow week, work closed, at 33 weeks. Then I got signed off for 2 weeks at 34 weeks which took me to 36 when my Mat Leave started. Was aneamic and feeling weak, dizzy and breathless, so couldn't really teach.
I recovered from it a fortnight ago, but it now feels like I've been off forever and I'm actually a bit bored and wished I'd been able to soldier on a bit.

Could you take some of your annual leave just to have a break for a bit?

lisad123wantsherquoteinDM · 14/02/2010 16:09

Signed off about 4 months in due to major SPD, no chance I could do my job on crutches and wouldnt have been safe to do so.

HTH

lola0109 · 14/02/2010 20:59

Ilovemybed I think depending on the type of job you do it could be quite easy to get signed off with carpal tunnel.

I could have this time round but decided just to go for annual leave and then mat leave from 36 weeks.

But last time my left hand was agony, really couldn't grip anything, constantly had shooting pains up my arm through my wrist and into my thumb.

As I was coming to the end of work I had little to do so I was assigned to take someone who couldn't drive to site meetings etc as it was crazy for them to give me a new project to start for 4 weeks. So when I could no longer grip the steering wheel I decided enough was enough.

But it doesn't get better so you'd need to be signed off for the rest of your pregnancy, are you near the end or do you want a month off but to go back?

FairyCakeBump · 14/02/2010 21:55

I've actually lost count. I had hyperemesis from about 6 weeks (big F--K YOU to the crap doctor who said it was too early to feel ill) to 20 weeks and I was signed off for most of that as I couldn't move my head off the couch without being sick.

Just as the sickness eased off, I started getting problems with my back and hips that apparently isn't SPD, but I still can't walk properly. I don't think I was signed off for that, I just did a few days a week and self-certified.

Then I got anaemic and couldn't brush my hair without bursting into tears because I was so exhausted... after just waking up. I was given more iron tablets and signed off for two weeks.

I'm at 27+4 now and I've had enough.

stressheaderic · 14/02/2010 22:33

Sympathies on the anaemia front Fairy - I felt exactly the same. 5 miserable weeks on the minging iron tablets, and a daily diet of steak and spinach was the only thing that got my levels up. A very miserable time...
