Currently 12 weeks and signed off with "tiredness related to pregnancy". Have been off for 3 weeks do far.

In actual fact I am completely out of commision with a combination of continual overwhelming nausea, creeping up of antenatal depression (I cry about twenty times a day and none of my thoughts at present are happy . I also have thyroid problems which (I believe) are not helping with the unrelenting dying type exhaustion.

I work for the NHS and have a job in which i need to be in a good emotional and physical state to look after patients so it is not possible for me to work at the moment.

I still feel guilty tho about the impact on the team .

thank you for all the replies. Big hugs to those of you feeling so awful. I have now got an impressive list of real symptoms for the dr (strange how these things come about!) so will see what happens.

good luck to everyone

Was signed off from 9 weeks to 29 weeks. Started off with hyperemesis and antenatal depression, then once those were under control the SPD and DeQuervain's tendonitis got me. I could have been signed off up till 36 weeks but decided just to start my mat leave at 29 weeks rather than faff about getting signed off every few weeks (was feeling guilty about being off, but really shouldn't have).

This thread title has made me smile

At 35 and a bit weeks, with less than a week to go before starting ML, I was written off sick for a week for a "pregnancy related issue". The next day I had the joy of ringing into work and telling them that I'd had the baby the night before Neither the doctor, nor myself worked out that the pain I was having at 12 noon was the start of labour, so the arrival of the baby at 6.30pm was a bit unexpected! Unfortunately I lost the sick note that put DD down as a pregnancy related issue

Signed off both pregnancies at 33 weeks. Bladder issues - had doctor put down preg related issues on cert as didnt want people processing it at work to know what the actual cause was. She was absolutely fine about it. Found that both my gp and gynae were averse to any major stress during pregnancy and would have had no prob signing off on leave if it made things easier! Felt even knowing that made everything a bit more bearable.

Im 27 weeks pregnant, and am taking some holiday before my maternity leave starts so i only have 23 days left to work. However i have crippling Carpal Tunnel in both hands, and my work involes using my hands, and lone working so i have no choice! I don't want to leave but i was wondering if any of you could tell me if i could get signed off for carpal tunnel, and how you go about it, would i have to self certify for a week first or can i ask for immediate affect certificate? Any coments would help Thanks x

I was signed off at 34 wks for anaemia and low amniotic fluid. Being signed off for pregnancy related reasons automatically starts your mat leave at 36 wks.

As I understand it you can self certify for a week and then to continue being off sick you will need a doctors note, however you don't have to self certify first you can just get a doctor to sign you off if they agree it's the best way forward. I have been signed on and off with hyperemesis throughout this pregnancy (31 weeks) by the doc with no self cert at all
